A devastating fire that broke out in Dispur has reduced to ashes a part of the Janata Bhawan on Wednesday evening.
According to information, the fire broke out at around 6 in the evening from a room and later it was dispersing rapidly to other rooms before taking a ravaging turn. As many as fifty fire tenders have been called to extinguish the fire but by then the the situation was going out of control.
According to RTI commissioner Dr B K Gohain, the Right to Information cell has been completely ravged n not even as file has been spared.
Moreover, the chambers of Nurjamal Sarkar, law minister Pranab Gogoi, parliament secretries Sarat Saikia, Bidya Singfh Inglng have been reduced to ashes in the major fire.
The authorities have yet to ascertained the reasons behind the ravaging fire that has reduced the seat of power to ashes. Initially, electric short circuit is said to be the source of the ravaging fire but a high level probe will be able to unearth the truth behind the fire.

Isn't it convenient that the Right To Information (RTI) department was reduced to ashes. A similar "short circuit" happened when the veterinary scam was being investigated. all the scam papers were destroyed by a "mysterious" fire. This time I wonder how many corrupt government officials and ministers will benefit from this fire.

Amid a string of protest Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi left for Dhaka on Monday to accompany prime minister Manmohan Singh who will be a two days visit to the neighbouring country. Gogoi, who arrived in Kolkata on Sunday left for Dhaka on Monday along with his counterparts in Meghalaya Mizoram.

The United Liberation Front of Asom(ULFA) struck a formal bilateral ceasefire pact with the Centre on Saturday to end the hostilities against each other. The pact was signed during a meeting with the top home ministry officials at North Block in Delhi in presence of Assam government officials.
ULFA finance secretary Chitraban Hazarika, foreign secretary Sashadhar Chaudhury and deputy commander in chief Raju Baruah signed the pact on behalf of the outfit while home ministry’s joint secretary for north east Sambhu Singh represented the Centre. Assam CPI leader Pramod Gogoi on Saturday said that 2 lakh acres of land belonging to the state is now under the adverse possession of Bangladesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland only because of Dispur’s failure to efficiently deal with these increasing encroachment.

In a bid to make its presence felt, the United Liberation Front of Asom’s anti-talk faction made a grenade attack at the Tihu police station on Friday. The incident took place in the evening where is hardly any report of casualty. The insurgent outfit later owned up the responsibility after police arrested a youth in this connection.
