Vice Prez inaugurates NE Business Summit in Guwahati

Vice President Hamid Ansari on Monday has inaugurated the two-day North East Business Summit being organised by the Department of North East Region, DoNER in collaboration with the Indian Chamber of Commerce, ICC, Kolkata. The main objective of the summit is to showcase the potential of the NE States and to promote private sector investments.

Organisers say the fourth summit of the kind will primarily focus on sectors such as tourism, food processing, power, infrastructure, information technology, handloom and cottage industries especially in the context of the Look East Policy on trade and investment linkages with ASEAN and SAARC countries.

A special session on "North East on Fast Track - Building International Partnership" with special reference to Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Philippines to discuss mutual cooperation will be the main attraction of the Summit. Governors and Chief Ministers of all north eastern states are attending the significant summit . Eight foreign Ambassadors and about 50 foreign delegates will attend the event. More than 200 private participants from North East region and near about 175 outside the North East region will also participate in the event.
The highlights of the summit include Chief Minister''s Conclave, International Session with Minister of Commerce of Cambodia, Ambassadors from Thailand, Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Czech Republic, Arab League and Bhutan, Special Thai Investment Session, specific sessions on infrastructure, agro and food processing, tourism, IT and skill development, one-to-one discussions among prospective investors (both from Northeast and foreign), banks, government officials, and corporate representatives, State Government investment hubs and an exhibition-showcasing Northeast.

I gone through the full length speech of Hon'ble Vice President. I am really surprised that no one is ready to admit the ground reality. Speaking good is totally different than doing good.The topic of insurgency/terrorism which is the main hurdle on the way economic development for North Eastern States, remain untouched. In my view two things are more important first control of insurgency for the peace of people and alluring investment and second thing is behavioural merger of North eastern States with rest of India

Its very unfortunate to note the comment of Mr Kumar... Investment will come if we can open the borders with ASEAN, Bangladesh and China...and also linking the mainland India with a faster and economical network of road, railways and airways. No body will like to fight... terrorism is a cottage industry for survival.. it is not a first choice...please see the attendance of army requirements camp in Northeast... This place has more educated, better fed people then others ..

Truck smashed in Orang during bandh

The picketers of the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam has smashed a truck on the National Highway No 52 in Orang in Darrang district during the bandh hour early morning on Sunday. Some more stray incidents are are being reported. Cong politicizing current situation: BJP

The Assam BJP leaders have said only the Congress party was politicizing the current situation in the state and not the other parties. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, senior BJP leader Barki Prasad Telenga reacted sharply to the recent allegation of a senior minister that BJP was trying to create a Beltola-like situation only for political mileage. Padma Hazarika shifted to Delhi

The injured Asom Gana Parishad legislator from Sootea Padma Hazarika has been flown to the Appollo Hospital in New Delhi for better treatment. Earlier on Saturday, he was brought to the city and was admitted to the Dispur Hospital. Mr Hazarika was attacked near his residence on Thursday midnight in Sootea by some unidentified miscreants. The Assam Government denies involvement of any militant outfit in it and has ordered a fast track probe into it. The regional party is demanding the immediate dismissal of the government. Meanwhile, the injured MLA has said the miscreants were known to him. But he said he would disclose their names only after the probe is completed.

Attack on Padma Hazarika not militant bid: Himanta

No militant outfit was behind the recent bid on life of AGP MLA Padma Hazarika. But the Assam government has ordered a speedy investigation to apprehend the culprits involved in it. Disclosing this before a private TV news channel, Assam government spokesperson Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the intelligence agencies have confirmed that the bid on life of Padma Hazarika was not a handiwork of any militant outfit.
