The killing of ULFA’s second lieutenant Sashanka Baruah stymie the on going peace initiatives if Mrinal Hazarika's strong message to Army is any indication.
Hazarika, who is leading ULFA's pro talk faction made it plain and simple that if army further fails to stop the killing of ULFA cadres in the name of encounter, they will have no option but to give a reconsider the unilateral ceasefire.

Talking to a private news channel, Mrinal Hazarika said," If these repeat we will be bound to reconsider the unilateral ceasefire."

Army have claimed that Sashanka Baruah died at an encounter but the pro talk faction said it’s a cold blooded murder. They said spots of bullet attacks are enough to understand that he was shot dead from a close range. According to the pro talk ULFA cadre Jiten Dutta, it’s nothing but a conspiracy to impede the peace process.

Jiten Dutta, another ULFA’s pro truce cadre said, "it’s a cold blooded murder. It’s nothing but conspiracy to foil our bid for restoration of peace."

But ULFA central leadership has charged pro talk ULFA topgun Prabal Neog with killing Sashanka. They maintained that despite repeated pressure, Sashanka did not join the faction. Moreover, ULFA’s central leadership has expelled Prabal Neog from the outfit hours after the killing of Sashanka Baruah.

AOD: AASU ready for intensified agitation.

The All Assam Students Union has said it have no option but to take resort to an intensified agitation if the Indian Oil Corporation further cariues forward its bid to take over the Assam Oil Division.Addressing a press meet on Monday, AASU president Shankar Prasad Roy, alleged that IOC is conspiring to take over the Assam Oil Division. They said IOC business with AOD has been successful. They further produced a letter by R K Bhargabh, a joint secretary of the petroleum ministry on October 14, 1981 asking the Indian Oil Corporation to give autonomy to the AOD to run the business with the symbol of red rhino.

Gas cracker to be completed in time: B K Handique

Union minister of state for fertiliser, chemicals and mining, Bijoy Krishna Handique announced that the multi crore gas cracker project will be completed in time albeit land requisition is delaying some problems. Speaking to reporters on Monday in Changsari, he said the Prime Minister has instructed the gas cracker authorities to expedite the work on the multi crore project proposed in the historic Assam Accord, 1985. according to him, land requisition process is nearing completion but there is some difficulties due to some matters relating to compensation.The proposed project if completed play an important role in the economy of the north eastern region.

4 died of mushroom consumption in Tinsukia: death toll in Assam goes up to 25

Four people died on Monday after they consumed poisonous mushroom they brought from forest in Tinsukia district. Accoding to information, these people in the remote area themselves brought the mushroom from the nearby forest. With this, the death toll due to the consumption of mushroom has gone up to 25. Before that, five people of a same family died in Palengi Jiamari gaon in Sivasagar. This was followed by the death of altogether 13 people in Golagaht district. Three people died in Jorhat on Saturday.

Major blast averted in Namrup as Army recover bomb

A powerful blast in Namrup has been averted when Army’s 44 Field Regiment jawans recovered a bomb in the wee hours on Monday. According to information, the bomb was stripped at a bicycle which was kept at the parking place of the Namrup Railway Station. NE journos body seeks safety and security

The North East Media Forum (NEMF) in New Delhi has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to ensure safety and security of the journalists working in the north eastern states saying these scribes facing a great deal of trouble while discharging their duties and responsibilities.
