Disrupting leopard killed, consumed in Namrup

NAMRUP:A section of people in a remote hamlet in Namrup killed a leopard hours after it killed a lady and hurt 3 others in a series of attack on Friday morning. Not only that after lynching, the villagers cut the animal into pieces in full view of the forest officials. Then they  claimed to have consumed it triggering widespread anger among the animal lovers.

These disturbing incidents took place in Majkopihuwa goan and Asomiya Gaon where the local villagers in large number chased the leopard after it killed Maikon Gogoi and injuring three others in s series of attacks in the morning.

The animal then was beaten up to death. A section of them cut it into pieces to vanished. Some of them later claimed to have consumer it which needs to be probed.

The reason why the leopard attacked people is not mentioned. A leopard won't just go on an attack spree. I would assume that these would have been either chance encounters or the leopard retaliating when provoked

 Amid the simmering border flare up, Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is all set to hold a fence-mending talks with his Nagaland counterpart on Thursday. Both the chief ministers are scheduled to meet in Dispur at 11 in the morning where the border violence would figure for an amicable solution. According to sources available with Assam Times a circle of the insurgents is involved in the border flare up where at least 14 local residents of Uriamghat area were killed and over 50 houses were torched. The Centre is believed to received the input. But it is not in a position to convey it to the pro talk militant outfit in the absence of the interlocutor. /
Extra security forces have arrived in Uriamghat along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district.Altogether nine Central Reserve Police Force posts have been handling the situation. Now these new forces have increased the strength.Immediately after the arrival of the new forces, the authorities cleared the blockade on the National Highway 39 leading to Nagaland on Tuesday.The Centre rushed the additional forces after Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had sought the Centre’s intervention for restoration of peace in the Uriamghat area of Golaghat.  
The flood situation in Nagaon and Morigaon turns critical on Tuesday. Over 150 villages have come under the surging waters of the Brahmaputra affecting around one lakh people. The water submerged vast tracts of human habitation and farm land with standing crops at Bhuragaon and Mayong revenue circles of Morigaon. Erosion has added to the woes. Erosion seems to have taken serious turn at the main dyke of Brahmaputra at Bhuragaon point. It threatens to submerge the revenue circle office, police station, Bhuragaon college and the main market there. /
 The flood waters have brought brimful misery to the birds and animals in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.  Talking to Assam Times, Park officials said that nearly per cent of the park has comes now under the surging waters. These have forced the rhinos and other wild animals there to take shelter on highlands. The forest guards are on a round the clock vigil to prevent the poachers to strike.
Amid an escalating tension along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district the All Tai Ahom Students Union activists in Amguri burnt the effigy of Union home minister Rajnath Singh for not settling the border row. Hundreds of ATASU activists thronged the Amguri town on Tuesday and shouted slogans against the Centre for not doing enough to solve the decade old border row. The protest assumed significance a week after the Naga miscreants killed at least 13 people and torched 50 houses in Uriamghat area in Golaghat district bordering Nagaland.

 Police arrested an Army jawan for allegedly trying to molest a teenaged girl inside the Dibrugarh-Delhi Rajdhani Express on Tuesday. The incident took place in between Lumding and Chaparmukh stations where the 17-year old who was girl travelling with her uncle in a three-tier AC compartment raised an alarm at 4 AM after the army jawan man was making the alleged attempt. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) immediately caught the accused sent him to the Railway Police in Guwahati Railway Station. The accused was identified as Kulvinder Singh from the Military Engineering Service and was posted in the Army's Amingaon camp.  
There is some let-up in the flood fury. But the misery refuses to recede. Flood waters seem to have started stopped spreading to new areas in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji district. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries are showing a   receding trend following the halt in the incessant rains during the last 12 hours. But the mighty river is still flowing above the danger mark in Dhubri and Goalpara. Other rivers like Puthimari and Beki are also showing signs of rising. Many districts in Lower Assam are reeling from the latest deluge. The worst-affected district is Barpeta. The flood fury in the Kaziranga National Park seems to have showing a receding trend on Tuesday. Twenty percent of the entire national park is now free for the animals to stay.The animals and birds to have shifted to the Karbi hills at the height of the fury are expected to be return.But many areas of the park are still inaccessible despite a drop in the water level. Park authorities told Assam Times that that proper extent of damages would be assessed later.
