IMPHAL: Manipur on Saturday averted a Chandel district like militant attack when a group of rebels made an abortive attempt on an Assam Rifles convoy in Kamjong.
But the ambush was fierce which had resulted no casualty when the militants near Aishi village within Kamjong district along the India-Myanmar border attacked the Assam Rifles convoy with three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) around5:35 am, before the fierce encounter.
The Assam Rifles team led by Maj Jagannathan was on their way to Aishi to conduct a medical camp there when they came under ambush near Aishi. The attack took place at a place located about 4 km from Aishi.
There were no casualties on both sides. Additional forces rushed to the site and conducted a massive search operation to nab the assailants. No group has claimed responsibility.
