Majuli,: Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development Nitin Gadkari will decide on the fate of the Brahmaputra Board as he would chair the review meeting with north eastern chief ministers in Kaziranga on December 30.
According to information, apart from discussing the restructure of the board, the high powered board meeting is expected to assign the works of development of the Master Plans, Survey and Investigation and Detailed Project report for water resources in the North East to WAPCOS.
Gadkari along with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay foundation of Rs. 237 Crores project ‘Protection of Majuli Island from Flood and Erosion” taken up by Brahmaputra board at a foundation laying ceremony to be held at Rawnapar in Majuli on December 29.
He will also lay the foundation stone of ‘Brahmaputra Board Complex in Majuli costing Rs. 40 Crores. The Complex will comprise office, residential house, a guest house, a Godown and a Skill Centre.
Assam Water resource Minister Keshab Mahanta, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and other dignitaries. In the same event, Assam Chiem Minister will lay foundation of altogether nineteen schemes for mitigation of flood and erosion taken up by State Water resources department in Majuli, which will cost total Rs. 61 crores.
