Lady bank manager shot dead by miscreants

GUWAHATI: Asst Manager of SBI Dadara Branch Junu Sarma was shot dead from point blank range by two armed motor cycle borne miscreants at Agiathori under Amingaon PS in Kamrup on Tuesday evening. When the her car slowed down at Agiathori area, two man on a motorbike wearing helmets broke the window pane of the car and shot her from close range,police said.Her driver rushed her to NH Narayana hospital and later referred to GMCH where she was declared brought dead.The driver has been detained for questioning, police said adding that the cause of the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Rajkhowa’s clarion call

The Arunachal Pradesh governor JP Rajkhowa urged the youth communities to carry forward the crusade against the growing menace in the north eastern state. In his address at the Solung Festival in Itanagar on Tuesday, Rajkhowa said only the youth fraternity has the strength enough the change the face of the beautiful state.

Terming the land of rising sun as the country’s most beautiful state, he advised the people to document the colourful language, customs and traditions so that age-old heritage can be handed over from generation to generation.

Raha professor in global summit

Gajendra Mohan Dev Sharma, Head, Department of Geography, Raha college has been invited to the USA by Interdisciplinary Environmental Association to present his paper at the 20th International Interdisciplinary Conference on the Environment to be held in Denver, Colorado on June 13-15.

The conference is motivated by the increasing need to combine ideas and research findings from different disciplines to enhance peoples' understanding of the interactions between the natural environment and human institutions.

He is also invited to Bangkok by ' Tomorrow People Organization’s , based in Belgrade, Serbia, ‘Sustainable Development conference on Green technology, renewable energy and environmental protection’ , to present his paper entitled ‘ Municipal solid waste management and ragpickers : A case study of Nagaon town, Assam , India.

The Sustainable Development Conference, organized by the Tomorrow People Organization will take place from 5th July to the 7th July 2014 at the Royal Benja Hotel Thailand in Bangkok, Thailand.
