Dwijing Festival begins at Aie River in Chirang

The 3rd editon of Dwijing Festival 2018-19,a river festibal,which is regarded as much awaited and anticipated, has begun from Thursday at the Aie River Bank along the Hagrama Bridge in Chirang district of BTC.

Assam minister for PHE department,Rihon Daimary cut the ribbon to inaugurate the festival in the presence of huge gathering.

The Dwijing festival(River Bank) was started in the year 2016 with an aim to promote the local river  tourism and culture of BTC region. Now, government has planned to make it one of the biggest ever and establish it as an annual calendar event at the national and international level,which was organised by BTC Tourism and Assam Tourism department.Govt of Assam.

Arjuna Awardee International Boxer from Manipur, L.Sarita Devi inaugurated the flagging off a marathon race from Chapaguri to Aie River on the first day of the festival which was followed by inauguration of food stalls by Assam Toursim minister Chandan Brahma.

Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal is attending the event on December 29 where he will visit the festival to witness festival celebration.

 Adventure sports, food mart, cultural events, traditional games are being organized  in the 12 day long event. Participants from Thailand, Bhutan and Bangladesh are also taken part in the festival.

  This time, the festival is witnessed several event’s opening, apart from Bodo traditional House, Book stall, Traditional stage, Adventure Sports, Dwijing Night camp, Demonstration and opening of Rifle Shooting, Jeep and Elephant Safari, cultural programs from various tribes and traditions, fire cracker show, performances from Bangladesh artists, performace by Bollywood singer Anaya Brahma, Band performance by famous singer Kailash Kher, internationally renowned artists' performances etc.

 Since its start, the festival has been providing livelihood opportunities for the local and focuses on the business activities for better economic generation through rural tourism. The Dwijing festival this year also showcasing various activities such as display of ethnic food and culture, adventure activities, ethnic games and more,said Assam Tourism minister Chandan Brahma.

‘The festival is aimed at promoting state Tourism by harnessing the potential of the river and make it one of the most popular tourist attractions of the State’,he added.

 Daimary said, “Today, on its 3rd year of inception, the festival has created benchmarks for itself. We have people coming from all parts of the country- both national and international. In the coming years, we aspire every individual to know about this festival and make Aie River a tourist hub for the nation. Deputy Commissioner,Chirang and president, Dwijing Festival 2018-19, Gautam Talukdar hoisted the flag of the event which will be continued till January 7 next with 12-day colourful programme scheduled.

  In marathon race competition(male category), Bipul Satnami(Sivsagar),Gwmwtaho Brahma(Kokrajhar) and  Ratan Chandra Roy(Chirang) were adjusted first,second and third respectively. In female’s category,Soya Rani Brahma(Baksa),Udangshri Mushahary(Chirang) and Ganga Narzary(Chirang) have been spotted in first,second and third respectively.

Among others, BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary,former BTC speaker Paniram Brahma,officials from Assam tourism were prominent attendees on the inaugural day.

  KOKRAJHAR: The Bodoland People's Front's (BPF) elected member's numbers have been reduced to 4 from 12 in the assembly elections across the four districts of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
