NEHU Campus, 20th April, 2023 - The National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), GoI, has kicked off the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC) at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) campus. The three-day program, organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NEHU and sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Ahmedabad, aims to equip over 75 students from diverse backgrounds with the knowledge and skills required for entrepreneurship.

Esteemed experts from both industry and academia have gathered to interact with the participants, shedding light on crucial topics such as entrepreneurship, start-ups, innovation, marketing ideas, and generating resources for product commercialization. This EAC marks the second camp organized after the successful event held in March 2023.

The inauguration of the program took place on 20th April, 2023, with Professor Iftekhar Hussain, Dean of the School of Technology at NEHU, serving as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honor, Dr. Nilesh Trivedi, Assistant Director of MSME, Tura, along with Dr. P. Khongji, Head of BSSS, NEHU, Dr. Sudip Paul, Teacher-Incharge of the BME Department, NEHU, and Dr. Dinesh Bhatia and Dr. Punit Gautam, Course Coordinators, were also present at the opening ceremony.

In his welcome speech, Dr. D. Bhatia, Course Coordinator, outlined the objectives of the awareness camp, emphasizing the long-term benefits it would bring to society. He highlighted the abundant opportunities and challenges that young entrepreneurs face, particularly in India, now the world's most populous country, surpassing China. Dr. Bhatia expressed sincere gratitude to both the Central and State governments for their whole-hearted support in organizing such camps in the region.

Dr. Nilesh Trivedi shed light on the role of MSME and the Government of India in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, while also highlighting the various funding opportunities available to support such initiatives. Dr. P. Khongji expressed his satisfaction with the Entrepreneurship Camp and commended the role of his department in initiating this venture.

Professor Hussain, the Chief Guest, underscored the transformative power of start-ups and entrepreneurs in shaping the country's future. He advocated for the establishment of data centers and suitable market opportunities in the North-East region, enabling young individuals to unlock their potential. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of staying updated with recent technological trends, highlighting the pivotal role that courses like the EAC play in connecting people with rapid developments.

Dr. S. Paul highlighted the role of technology in meeting industry needs and sustaining technological advancements.

Concluding the ceremony, Dr. Punit Gautam extended a vote of thanks to all the university and external stakeholders involved in organizing the event. He expressed appreciation for the course participants and resource persons who came together for this enlightening awareness camp.

The EAC at NEHU promises to empower aspiring entrepreneurs, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to thrive in the dynamic world of start-ups and innovation.

Louis Berger scam: Court orders CBI probe

The Assam government is handing over the Louis Berger scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) acting on the Gauhati High Court order which received some crucial papers from CID pertaining to the multi crore which surfaced in 2015.  Sources told Assam Times that Dispur will write to the country’s premier investigation agency in a day or two asking for a thorough probe into the multi crore scam. Dispur Hospitals conducting media clinic

Dispur Hospital on Saturday will conduct an evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) where Dr Raj Kr Dutta (medicine) will be available for free consultations to the GPC members along with their dependents. Mild quake hits Nagaland

A low intensity 3.0 earthquake jolted the north eastern state of Nagaland  on Friday striking panic button for many people who feared the rerun of the 2015 jolt in Manipur.  The earthquake, which originated in Zuhenboto struck the state at 8.41 in the morning which forced many  people people in the high rise buildings to come down to the open space.  There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.

Girl gangraped, battling with life at GMCH

Yet another incident of gangrape sends no less shock and anger across the state on Thursday. The victim is battling to survive at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.  The incident took place in Tamulpur areas where the local residents rescued a girl from a house where she was gangraped on Wednesday night.  The villagers, further, caught one of the rapists to be thrashed before handing over to the police. Finance files reduced to ashes in Dispur

A fire that broke out at the Assam Secretariat in Dispur on Thursday reduced to ashes a few crucial files belonging to finance department.  Believed to have been originated from electric short circuit, the fire broke out when chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal was holding his cabinet meeting in the morning.  Within an hour, fire tenders brought the situation under control. AGP still opposed to citizenship amendment

Anomaly in NRC fund

A huge anomaly of Rs 248 crore is likely to derail the ongoing process to update the National Registrar of Citizenship. According ti Assam Public Work, the man behind the entire anomaly is the project head Ptatik Hajela. The non governmental organization demands a CBI probe into the allegations of anomalies.
