Golaghat: Last Wednesday, an insightful sensitization workshop addressing the detrimental effects of tobacco use was organized at the conference hall of the District & Sessions Judge’s office in Golaghat. The event witnessed the presence of key figures in the fight against tobacco consumption, including Secretary of DLSA Golaghat, Smt. JyotiSmita Sarma, Dr. Sunita Ekka from District Tobacco Control Cell, Golaghat, and Rudhir Prakash Sarma, Divisional Coordinator of Upper Assam Division from The UNION. Officials from the DLSA office and the health department also actively participated.

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address, followed by an insightful discussion on the provisions of the COTPA Act 2003 by the Secretary of DLSA. Dr. Ekka provided an in-depth analysis of the tobacco burden in Assam and the diverse health implications arising from tobacco use. She took the opportunity to shed light on the achievements of the District Tobacco Control Cell in Golaghat, expressing gratitude to colleagues and stakeholders for their unwavering support.

Rudhir Sarma from The UNION emphasized the importance of a united front to combat the tobacco menace and encouraged collective efforts towards achieving a tobacco-free generation. He urged the attendees to utilize and share information about the toll-free National Tobacco Quitline Services (1800-112-356), established by the Indian government to offer counseling services for individuals keen on quitting tobacco.

The workshop culminated with the Secretary of DLSA, Golaghat, urging all present to refrain from tobacco use, prioritize their health, and disseminate the knowledge acquired during the workshop to their colleagues, friends, and family members. The event showcased a collective determination to work towards a healthier, tobacco-free community.

Timber smuggler arrested

 Sasastra Seema Bal jawans held a timber smuggler along with a trolley loaded with firewood from 16th battalion based at Ranighuli near Runikata police station in Chirang district on Sunday. The SSB jawans conducted special operations in the area under command of inspector Shyamal Singh managed to seized one power tractor along with trolley loaded of firewood from Indo-Bhutan border and apprehended a timber smuggler. The arrested person was identified as Ranjit Mushahary (26) of Gwtwibari of Chirang district. The seized timber would be cost of Rs.9.90 lakhs.

Cong prepared for polls

Cong ready for polls Congress is fully prepared for the assembly polls and it would retain power for the fourth consecutive term. State Congress president Anjan Dutta said it on Sunday when he arrived in the Rajiv Bhawan to attend a crucial party meeting.Dutta said that the dissident won’t be able to topple the Tarun Gogoi government immediately. Gangrape accused confess crime

The Sonapur gangrape accused confessed to have committed the crime after police caught them on Friday night. During police interrogation, one of the duo said that the victim was his classmate and that he and his friend took her on their car to be gangraped at Byrnihat in Meghalaya. They warned her of dire consequences if she disclosed their names and dumped her in Ural villages along the Assam-Meghalaya border early in the morning. Fuel crisis rerun in Manipur
