Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Remembered Across Assam on Student Day

KOKRAJHAR: Citizens from various communities, particularly the Bodo community, commemorated the exemplary contributions of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), on his 68th birth anniversary, celebrated as 'Student Day' across different districts of Assam with a series of day-long events on Sunday.

In Kokrajhar, the central committee of the All Bodo Students Union, in collaboration with the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) and the Kokrajhar district committee of ABSU, convened at Thulungapuri Dotma amidst a massive turnout of public and student representatives. ABSU President Dipen Boro unfurled the union flag, followed by heartfelt floral tributes to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at his tomb and samadhi sthal.

The event witnessed symbolic gestures towards sustainable peace, including the release of balloons and white pigeons by esteemed guests, alongside sapling plantations symbolizing the spirit of the day. Notable figures paying homage to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma included Dr. Surath Narzary, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and renowned journalist Rupa Chenoy from Mumbai.

ABSU President Dipen Boro underscored Bodofa's lifelong dedication to the welfare and upliftment of marginalized communities, urging the government to confer upon him the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, in recognition of his enduring legacy.

"The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) demands the Bharat Ratna for Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a leader revered not only by Bodos but also by students and the underprivileged," stated Dipen Boro, highlighting Bodofa's pivotal role in the Bodoland movement and his vision for a literate society based on the principles of non-violence.

Similar observances took place in Tamulpur, where the Tamulpur district committee of ABSU, in collaboration with local entities, honored Bodofa's memory, with Bodoland Territorial Region's Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro emphasizing the significance of Bodofa's ideals in shaping a brighter future for students.

In recognition of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma's enduring impact, the Assam government officially declared March 31st as 'Chatra Divosh' (Student Day) across the state, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire generations.

The commemoration of Bodofa's birth anniversary underscores his indelible mark on Assam's socio-political landscape, reaffirming the commitment to his vision of empowerment and progress for all.

BTC to rehabilitate for Amchang settlers

'BTC administration is preparing to rehabilitatein Bodoland those evicted settlers in Amchang  if Chief Minister gives his consent. Talking to reporters, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary said the eviction in the Amchang wild life sanctuary was conducted under strict guide lines of law. It was duty of the government to evict illegally settlers along the Amchang forest. 'BTC administration will provide shelteing facility to the Amchang evicted persons if CM offers allowed us to rehabilitate', Mohilary said.

Bhutan women defeat KDSA XI

Bengali Youth Students Federation stage dharna

BTC Bengali Youth Student’s Federation staged a 2.30 hour sit-in-dharna in front of DC office in Kokrajhar on Monday demanding steps yo stop of excess on the Hindu Bengali community in the name of D-voter issue. Hundreds of students activists and Bengali speaking citizens with banner, placards participated the dharna and shouted slogans, on demand of early update of NRC in the in the state and stop of harassed of Hindu Bengalis peoples in the name of D-voters in the state. Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration announced ₹2 lakhs financial assistance to the Boxer Angkushita Boro,finalist in AIBA youth World Boxing championship in Guwahati. Hog deer rescued in Baksa

A hog deer was rescued after it slipped into a pond at Koklabari agriculture farm in Baksa district of BTAD on Sunday.The animal  was spotted by the villagers at a pond which is felt on pond clay and saw injuries on its one leg.Following information about Hog Deer's fall to the pond clay, a joint team of Manas Maozigendri Ecotourism Society,a NGO and forest department rushed the spot and rescued the Deer from Koklabari agriculture farm, outside of Manas National Park.

A national handloom expo -2017-18,Kokrajhar is going on at the Rashmela ground in Kokrajhar. The expo was organised by BRAWFED in association with development commissioner for handlooms, ministry of textiles. Rajib Brahma, BTC executive member graced as chief guest and lighted the lamp to inaugurate expo. A total 52 stalls from different states, including a Bhutanese stall are participating the expo. The expo will continue till December 7 next.

Concern over elephant deaths

Forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma is shocked to have learnt the repeated incidents of jumbo death due to electrocution and rail movements. Talking to reporters in the sidelines of s function in Kokrajhar on Thursday she  expressed concern over the increasing of the wild elephant’s deaths across the state and blamed the power department. She said that forest department has been trying to end the deaths of wild elephants accidental deaths with necessary measures. She said that elephants death is increasing day by day in the state on various occasion which are becoming very sensitive for the state.  

PMAY scheme distributed in Kokrajhar

Assam forest minister and local MLA of Kokrajhar east LAC Pramila Rani Brahma inaugurates the ceremoniall distribution of letter intent(LOI) to the Prime Minister Awas Yajana of Housing Financial Assistance((PMAY-HFA) at a programme held at KDSA stadium in Kokrajhar on Thursday. The programme was organised by BTC Urban Development Department in association with Kokrajhar Municipality Board to distribute the cheques and sanction letters of the PMAY ventures among urban beneficiaries.
