Manas National Park Reopens for Visitors, World Tourism Day Celebration Planned

The Manas National Park & Tiger Reserve in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is set to welcome visitors once again starting today, September 27, marking the end of the monsoon closure period mandated by the Government of India.

In a notice issued by Dr. C. Ramesh, Chief Conservator of Forests & Field Director of Manas Tiger Reserve, the park will be open to the public six days a week during the 2024-25 ecotourism season. To ensure conservation efforts, the park will remain closed to visitors every Wednesday throughout the season.

To celebrate World Tourism Day 2024, the department of Tourism, Government of Assam, in partnership with Bodoland Tourism, will host a grand event at Bansbari, Manas National Park in Baksa district. The theme for this year's celebration is "Tourism and Peace."

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and Bodoland Territorial Region Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro will be the chief guest and special guest, respectively. The event will feature a cycle rally flag-off and a plantation drive.

Kokrajhar police have caught Sanjoy Basumatary on Wednesday two days after he and his associate Rupom Roy gangraped a minor girl inside the Chirang Ripu reserve forest. Police arrested Roy on Tuesday after he was caught by local residents in Kokrajhar as Ge was moving near the railway station. Both they forcibly picked up a minor girl from the road to be gangraped inside the jungle. Local residents are also angry with the civil hospital authority for refusing to conduct a medical test to confirm rape even after police registered the case.

Yet another shocking incident of gangrape in Kokrajhar sends huge wave of anger across the state. On the of the perpetrators has been caught by a group of people in the town before being handed over to police on Tuesday. The incident took place on Monday evening when two drivers forcibly picked up a minor girl from. To be repeatedly gangraped inside the Chirang Ripu reserve forest. When the victim revealed the incident's a section of the people spotted one of the culprits roaming near the railway station. Identified as Rupok Roy, he was caught and handed over to the police.
