Tezpur : On 25th July,2007 All Assam Hills Tribal Council had organised a meeting in Sonitpur District in village Missamari. Benudhar Tumung, President and Nripen Ingti General Secretary of All Assam Hills Tribal Council was present in the meeting. In the meeting the Sonitpur District Committee has form to work for the Hills People living in plains. The new unit was formed with Chikari Terang as President and Sarching Teron as General Secretary.All Assam Hills Tribal Council is Non Government, non religious, non political organisation. The Head Office is at Guwahati. The Organisation is working for the upliftment of Hills people living in Plains.

I am an student studing in IISER-KOLKATA. I m very much keen to join a NGO like above given and want to work on upliftment of our people.

First, tribals have to work hard.
Tribals are not competent farmers. So, Bangladeshis are prospering in our agriculture sector.
Look at the agricultural produce of Kharupetia near Mangaldoi town. Bangladeshis have taken over agriculture. They are not only good at growing crops and vegetables but also know to sell them.
What is the use of forming so many tribal organisations when the ground reality is lack of work culture among tribals?

One ULFA’s self style corporal Uttam Neog was killed in an encounter with Army on late Sunday night in upper Assam’s Kakopathar in Tinsukia district. Sir,It is sad to note that taking the advantage of the poverty of the Mishing community in Majuli, Dhemaji and Jonai, numerous Mishing families are been converted to Christianity by opportunistic Christian missionaries. I am an ordinary citizen and can do nothing. Assam Governor Lt general (Retd.) Ajoy Singh on Saturday has visited Gauhati university campus and discussed the administrative matters with registrar in charge. Later talking to the journalists he said he will personally monitor these university functioning upto May 29 but will leave all these to the new Vice Chancellor. Notably, the governor has constituted a high level committee to study the resignation of Dr Amarjyoti Chaudhury to enable him to finalise his decision on May 29.
It’s good news for people of Assam. Four candidates from the soil of Assam have cleared Civil Service Examination, 2007. The results of the examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission have been declared on Friday. Journalists' Forum, Assam has congratulated two city based scribes for being selected to undergo a three weeks long training on journalism in USA. Nava Thakuria and Subhamoy Bhattacharjee are among six media and NGO persons from India and Sri Lanka, who had already arrived in Bloomington to participate in the programme at the Indiana University. A hardcore ULFA rebel, Montu Borgohain, was killed during an operation by army in upper Assam's Dibrugarh district on late Friday night.
