The 64th annual conference and literary festival of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha concluded on January 13 at Dwimu Nwgwr, Dimakuchi, in Udalguri district after a vibrant four-day celebration. Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika attended as the chief guest, representing Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, while Pramod Boro, CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), inaugurated the event. The event attracted delegates from Assam, Nepal, Bangladesh, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, alongside representatives from various districts of Assam.

The session featured cultural demonstrations from multiple communities, including Bodo, Nepali, Adivasi, Koch Rajbongshi, Bhutanese, and Bangladesh, showcasing the region's diverse heritage. Minister Hazarika praised the Bodo Sahitya Sabha’s efforts in advancing Bodo language and education. CEM Pramod Boro highlighted the event’s role in promoting the Bodo language, literature, and culture, noting significant educational advancements within BTR since its formation in 2020.

Marathon race organised in Durga Puja celebration

A marathon competition was orgaised to create awareness on anti-social activities like crimes against women along with Durga Puja celebration at Salakati in Kokrajhar district on Saturday. Hundreds of participants from different places from greater Salakati area participated the marathon race which started from Station Road, Salakati and concluded at the same point completing of 8 kms distance. Former BTC executive member Derhasat Basumatary and social activist Durga Hasda flagged off the the marathon race. The spot holders in the race were awarded with cash award and prizes from the organising committee.

Deputy chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Kampa Borgoyary has cut the ribbon to inaugurate the the Manas National Park amidst presence of large number visitors and officials at Bansbari forest range office main gate in Baksa district.

Road safety awareness progrrame held in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: A road safety awareness proramme was held in Kokrajhar district on Thursday by district transport office (DTO), Kokrajhar to create awareness on accident and traffic control in the district. Students from the different colleges participated at the programme. As per official records of the DTO Kokrajhar, there were 148 cases of accidents reported and 69 persons dead in Kokrajhar district in 2018 itself. DTO Kokrajhar Dhajen Basumatary said that the progremme was organised out to create awareness and alertness among the young generation.

Heroin smugglers arrested

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar police apprehended two heroin smugglers from Kokrajhar town late Tuesday evening in a search operation. Kokrajhar police conducted a search operation at one house along the Ganga Hall Road and seized 58.9 grams of heroin. Two persons were apprehended. They were identified as Rinok Narzary (25) of Muthambil Soraibil of Gossaigaon and Mondip Narzary (24 year) of Habrubari under Kokrajhar police station.

Bijitt Gwra Narzary new BTC EM

KOKRAJHAR: Darangamela MCLA in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Bijit Gwra Narzary is going to take oath and secrecy of the office as executive member of BTC on Wednesday at a programme at BTC Legislative Assembly auditorium hall in Kokrajhar. Narzary has been inducted as executive member in place of Deben Boro, who was in charge of the Handloom & Textile and Sericulture department in the BTC. KOKRAJHAR: Security forces apprehended six hardcore cadres including deputy finance secretary of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) from Ripu Reserve forest, Kokrajhar district early Monday morning. The arrested cadres are Myanmar trained. Police recovered arms and ammunitions from them. Child molester arrested

KOKRAJHAR: A tuition master has been arrested for allegedly molestating of minor girl in Kokrajhar town on Sunday evening. According to family, a 9-year-old girl went for tuition class at the nearby house under the Ward no.2 along with her classmates in the morning around at 8 am. The tuition classes ended at 10 am and other students were allowed to go their houses by 10 itself. But the victim girl was kept inside tuition hall till 12 pm. Later, the girl was recovered from the tuition master's house. Family members alleged that the girl was molested by tuition master. An FIR was lodged with police against the incident. Boy trampled to death by wild elephants

KOKRAJHAR: A young boy was trampled to death and  a woman left seriously injuried by wild elephant within 24-hour at Bijni in Chirang district on Friday. According to local peoples, a 12-year-old young boy child was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Bishnupur along the India-Bhutan border area under Bijni police station in Chirang district on Friday morning. A herd of 4 wild elephants from nearby Manas National Park were approaching the village in search of foods where the incident took. The young child died on the spot. Five arrested for carrying cattles illegally

Five persons were arrested by te police for illegally carrying cattles in five trucks on Thursday morning at Karigaon national highways in Kokrajhar district. Police intercepted the trucks carrying 80 cattles, including 14 buffaloes during the petrolling in the 31C National Highways. The trucks were bound for Nine Mile, Guwahati from Pandipara and Sonapur of West Bengal. The cattles were purchased by Pioneer Livestocks. During the checking, Pioneer Livestocks and truck drivers failed to show proper documents.Police later seized the trucks and the cattles.
