Margherita, May 5: In a heartening display of community spirit and devotion, prominent social worker Jaha Singpho of Chiro Pathar, Margherita, has donated 4 kathas of land, valued at approximately ₹30 lakh, for the construction of a new Buddhist monastery at Makum Pathar Mase village in Margherita.

The monastery's inauguration ceremony was held with great fervor and was attended by several dignitaries. Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Namchai Constituency MLA Chow Jingnu Namchum, Margherita Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Thaudam Parikshit, and Tehon Hakun, the high priest and Christian Progressive Leader of the Eastern Frontier Area, were present as distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, Deputy CM Chowna Mein lauded Jaha Singpho’s generous act, calling it an inspiration for society at large. He emphasized the importance of such contributions in preserving the region’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. Other speakers echoed similar sentiments, appreciating Jaha Singpho’s dedication to promoting peace, harmony, and communal development.

The donation and the establishment of the monastery have been warmly welcomed by the local community, with many praising Singpho’s enduring commitment to social welfare and cultural preservation in these changing times.

Me-dam-me-phi, the auspicious festival of Tai-Ahom community is celebrated at several places in Sivasagar district on Tuesday. It is celebrated at the historical Talatal Ghar by the historical monuments preservation committee, at Shiva Dol by Ahom Raj Chora and at Gorgaon Palace by ATASU. The All Tai Yuba Chatra Parishad observed Me-dam-me-phi at Lai-Thepena Maidam, Amguri.

Jhajimukh Festival on February 18-19

Jhajimukh Festival will be held on February 18-19. MLA from Teok constituency of Jorhat district and President of the Organising Commitee Membor Gogoi has laid the foundation stote of the pandal on Sunday. Dr. Pitambor Dev Goswami and veteran columnist Dr. Nirmal Chahewala will be inaugurating the event. All the MLAs from Jorhat district, Ex. Union Minister Bijoy Krishna Handique and many other dignitaries from different fields will attend the festival. The Festival ground and the main pandal is named in memory of Dr. Mamoni Roysom Goswami and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika respectively.

Nazira wins in state level Prize money cricket tournament

The A.D. Das cricket team of Nazira wins the Surojmall Sahawalla and Tulsi Jalan Memorial All Assam Prize Money cricket tournament organised by Kola Kristi Sangha at Borsila play ground of Amguri. They beat Pragoti club of Jorhat with a margin of 16 runs. Their opponent earned 96 runs. The Man of the Match title and Man of the series are awarded to Manuj Sarma of Pragoti Club Jorhat and Kaku of Nazira team respectively.

Veteran Asom Gana Parishad leader Upen Konwer no more

Upen Konwer, Central Commitee member and Vice-Presiden of Charaidew district of AGP has passed on Sunday at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. He was 52 years. He is remembered for his dedication in the historical Assam agitation and AGP party. He was from Angera Konwer gaon of Charaidew. Ex. Minister, Vice-President of AGP express grief at the sudden demise of departed leader. Konwer left behind his mother, his wife and only son at the time of his dead.

Govt sanctions 1 crore for Nazira Sub-Division Hospital

Debobrata Saikia, MLA, Nazira at a press meet at Nazira on January 29, discloses that Assam Government has released rupees 1 crore for the development of Karmasree Hiteswar Saikia Memorial Nazira Sib-Division Civil Hospital at Ligiripukhuri, Nazira. He also informs the media that Nazira development block receives 1 crore 70 Lakh under MNREGA scheme. He discloses that 180 swing machines for SC & Tea tribes, 1.17 lakh for Rohdoi pukhuri Natya Mandir, 2.50 lakh for electrification of Kamal Chapori, Scholarship of 13.80 rupees for 380 SC and ST students is sanctioned for his constituency for 2011-12 period.

Mother and son died on spot in stone quarry mishap

On yesterday evening, at Laxmijan stone quarry under Nazira police station of Sivasagar district, Urmila Khatun (29) and her three years son Mejajin Ali died on spot in a stone quarry mishap under 6no quarry of his Mahadev Kurmi is the contractor. The accident occurred due to the falling of heap of stone on the workers. The seriously injured husband Giasuddin Ali and elder son Giasuddin Ahmed admitted at hospital. The ill-fated family was from Mayong-Balimukh gaon of Morigaon district, Assam.

The All Assam Mamoni Bora and Dulu Hazarika memorial invitation day-night prize money badminton competition held at Gaurisagar on January 27 concluded. The winners of this competition are, Rajib Barua in Men’s open single, Sangram Chetia in under 15 boys, Abhijit Dutta and Mausom Gohain in mens open doubles, Abhijit Mitra and Jyan ranjan Bora in veteran men’s doubles respectively.
