A Grand Welcome for Gaurav Gogoi in Jorhat

Thousands of party leaders and workers gave a warm welcome to Gaurav Gogoi as he set foot in Jorhat for the first time since becoming the Assam Pradesh Congress President. Gogoi, son of the late former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, visited his personal residence in Jorhat district. Reflecting on his father's political beginnings in Jorhat, he remarked, “I feel my father’s blessings from wherever he is today. This is a moment of immense joy and gratitude for me. I am thankful to the people of Jorhat.”

Gogoi told the media, “Had I not won the Lok Sabha elections from Jorhat, I don’t think our central leadership would have given me this significant responsibility.”

Upon his arrival from Delhi at Rowriah Airport, Gogoi was greeted with music, garlands, and a huge crowd of party workers and supporters. The airport and its surroundings were packed with enthusiastic well-wishers, turning the atmosphere into a festive celebration. Congress workers also felicitated him with a traditional ‘gamosa’ at the airport.

Simultaneously, a large gathering assembled at the Jorhat Stadium, where Gogoi was welcomed with cultural performances, including Bihu and Jhumur dances by his supporters. At his father’s home in Nazir Ali area of Jorhat town, he paid floral tributes to his late father and sought blessings for his upcoming political journey.

Speaking at the gathering, Gogoi said he hadn’t anticipated such a massive crowd at the airport, which caused some inconvenience, and he apologized for it. He emphasized his commitment to addressing the state’s pressing issues, citing how Guwahati and Lakhimpur have recently suffered from floods. “We have already started preparing for the Assembly elections, but the real battle will be in 2026,” he noted.

On the question of factional politics within the Congress, Gogoi said, “There is no factionalism in Congress. If there is any faction, it belongs only to the people of Assam.”

After the events in Jorhat, Gogoi traveled to Titabar and Sivasagar, accompanied by newly appointed executive presidents of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, MLAs Rekibuddin Ahmed and Bhaskar Baruah, and other Congress leaders. His assumption of the state party leadership has sparked enthusiasm within the Congress ranks in Assam.

Notably, Gogoi's appointment comes amidst allegations of his wife's alleged connection to a cooking-gas scam, making this new role especially significant. However, whether Gaurav Gogoi can lead the Congress to a resurgence in Assam’s political landscape remains to be seen.
