Nazira Hangabadik Mancha Observes Rabha Divas at Gandhi Maidan

Nazira, June 20: The Nazira Hangabadik Mancha commemorated Rabha Divas on June 20 with a solemn and vibrant program held at Gandhi Maidan, Nazira. Rabha Divas is observed across Assam to mark the death anniversary of legendary cultural icon Bishnu Prasad Rabha, who passed away on this day in 1969.

The event commenced with floral tributes and the lighting of candles at the bust of Vishnu Prasad Rabha. Dr. Kukil Kumar Gogoi, Superintendent of Hiteshwar Saikia Civil Hospital in Nazira and a noted dramatist and actor, paid his respects by offering floral tributes and lighting candles at the memorial.

The celebration was graced by several distinguished personalities including Dr. Barnali Dutta, Information and Public Relations Officer of Nazira Co-District, and Syed Khairul Hasan, advisor to the Nazira Hangabadik Mancha. A public meeting followed the tribute ceremony, jointly presided over by Mintu Chitrakar, President of Nazira Hangabadik Mancha, and Dhilip Hazarika, Vice-President.

During the meeting, Dr. Kukil Kumar Gogoi delivered a keynote address, highlighting the enduring legacy of Vishnu Prasad Rabha. He shared rare insights and personal anecdotes about Rabha’s ideals and sacrifices, many of which he had learned through conversations with Rabha’s wife, Mohini Rabha.

The event also featured performances and reflections by notable attendees including Dr. Barnali Dutta, Dhilip Das—a celebrated radio artist from Nazira, journalist Jadumoni Hazarika, and singer Jaya Konwar, who performed soulful Rabha Sangeet numbers.

Among other eminent guests were Bhaben Das, Officer-in-Charge of Nazira Police Station; Prashant Barthaakur, renowned social worker; Tapan Kalita, cultural activist; Sunil Das, Central Organizing Secretary of the Scheduled Caste Youth Student Council; and Arup Das and Ditul Das, President and Vice-President of the Nazira District Committee of the Scheduled Caste Council. Also present were Jyandevi Paw and Dipanjali Sharma, Headmistress and teacher respectively of Assam Company Boys Primary School.

The program served as a heartfelt tribute to Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s lasting impact on Assam’s cultural and social fabric, uniting community members in remembrance and reflection.

Demanding all-round development of the Nazira subdivision, the Nazira Subdivisional unit of Brihottar Asomiya Youva Mancha, a large numbers of people ook out a protest rally at Nazira on Thursday. Later they submitted a memorendum to the SDO(C), Nazira. In their memorendum they demanded for urgent repair of historic Dhudor Ali, Romani Ali, Bor Ali, prevention from artificial flood of Nazira town, erosion of the Dikhow river and to take necessary action to repair the foot paths of Nazira town.
64 elementary teachers of Nazira who were appointed under operation black board scheme were not paid salaries for last 19 months. While protesting on Thursday, they have destroyed the block elementary education office, Nazira. Shouting slogans against the education department, the angry teachers broken windows, doors and furniture of the office and burnt several files. Later police controlled the situation.
All Tai Ahom Student Union (ATASU) will burn the effigies of the Prime Minister, Union Tribal Affairs Minister and Chief Minister of Assam on August 26 protesting statement of the Union Tribal Affairs Minister regarding the ST Status to the Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Motok, Moraan, Tea Tribes and Chutia communities of Assam. Declaring it at a press meet at the ATASU office, Nazira the central general secretary of ATASU said that the they will block the rail road in every districts of Assam on August 28 and also block the Mohanbari Airport, Dibrugarh on September 2.
Nazira police arrested 3 persons namely Manasjyoti Gogoi, Niranjan Gogoi of Nazira and Depan Gogoi of Simaluguri for demanding money on last August 22 and recovered several mobile phones from them. According to the police, the three persons were involved in demanding money in the name of ULFA from various persons of Guwahati, Duliajan, Tinsukia, Digboy, Amguri etc. A police team lead by the SDPO Nazira Ashif Ahmed and OC Nazira Sanjiv Gogoi arrested them. A case is registered in Nazira police station under IPC 387.
Under the rural agricultural work experience programme of Assam Agriculture University of  Jurhat an Agricultural Information Centre opened at Sundarpukhuri Kalita Gaon of Nazira on last August 19. 65 local cultivators were present in the opening ceremony.agricultural dev. Officer Ashim Saikia, exension officer Deben Saikia and students of AAU, Jorhat Monuj Gogoi, Manash Gogoi, Kanku, Bidyasagar, Nilufar, Pallavi, Anuradha, Rekha, Rashmi, Olivia, Takhpam and Kamsen  attended in the programme.
Water of the Dikhow rivers is flows above the dangerious level from last few days. Continious heavy rainpour in the Naga Hill areas and in Nazira sub-division carries threat to the people of Nazira and its surrunding areas. Crops of over thousand bighas of cultivated land of Nazira, Sunpura, Cherakapar, Bokota, Nemuguri, Namti etc. and some adjacets areas are affected by this flood.
