In response to the recent spate of attacks on working journalists in Assam, the Nazira Hangabadik Mancha has submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister of Assam through the Co-District Commissioner (CDC) of Nazira, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the victims.
The memorandum comes in the wake of disturbing incidents where journalists from two satellite news channels—ND24 and PRAG NEWS—were reportedly assaulted while on duty. Bimaljyoti Nath, ND24’s correspondent from Dekiajuli, and Madhurya Saikia, PRAG NEWS’s Dhemaji correspondent from Silapathar, were targeted by unidentified miscreants in separate incidents, raising serious concerns over press freedom and the safety of media personnel.
The Nazira Hangabadik Mancha strongly condemned the attacks and urged the state government to ensure the safety and dignity of journalists carrying out their professional responsibilities. In their appeal to the Home Minister, they emphasized the need for swift and impartial investigation, identification of the culprits, and appropriate legal action.
