Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. Terang is a litterateur whose epoch Rong Milir Hanhi sent him into the acme of glory. Contemporary social life in the state is very much there in his literary works . Jak Heruwa Pakhi is all about the ethnic frenzy between Karbis and the Kukis. The Assam agitation is what dominates his Krantikalor Oshru….During that time, he was attracted by the prose works of Hem Barooah’s Hagor Dekhisa not to speak of Banikanta Kakoti’s Sahitya Aaru Prem. Besides, he wrote a lot for Karbi language and literature. Mention may be made of Karbi Lamkuru, Karbi Kala Aaditag. Besides, some of his notable works in Assamese literature are Rong Milir Hanhi, Karbi Sahitya-Sanskritit Abhumuki, Nila Orchid, Smritir Papori and what not. It was Terang who for the first time used the word Karbi Anglong in his lyric.

Rongbong Terang is a great writer and a well-known personality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam. His work is really appreciable and unique. Assam Sahitya Sabha will go a long way under his presidentship. We wish him all the good luck and prayers for future.

Asam Sahity Sabha since its inception selecting the person as its President who hiself is an institution. This time Rongbong Terang has been selected to Chair the glorious organisation of the people of Assam. Hope, he will be able to lead the present complex situation for better cause of Assam and the North East with selfless design.

After a brief lull, terror shadow is back to Dima Hasao district. At least as six villagers were kidnapped by some unidentified militants at gun-point in this hills district during the last 12 hours. The incident took place at Dehangi and Maibong areas of and the kidnapped villagers belonged to the Dimasa tribal community.
Heavily-armed militants stormed into the villages in the wee hours on Tuesday and whisked them away to the near by dense jungles. The police and paramilitary forces have launched a massive search operation to rescue the villagers. ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa has moved a local TADA court in Guwahati seeking bail in connection with six cases pending against him. It will not be so difficult for Rajkhowa to procure bail in view of Dispur's decision not to oppose the bail petitions of these top ULFA leaders. Rajkhowa was produced before the court on Monday as he was moved the petitions. He moved the TADA ciurt a day after political adviser Bhimkanta Buragohain was released on bail. These employees of the Indian Oil Tank Limited have been remaining traceless from Lengting area in Maibong of the hills district. Police investigation is on. But the things are clueless. The process to hold talks between ULFA and the government seems to have reached a crucial point when the outfit's top leader Bhimakanta Buragohain was released on bail on Sunday. Buragohain, popularly known as Mama left the Guwahati Central jail in the morning more than a month after he procured bail from the local court in Tezpur. On the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with support from the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), an organisation run by the Indian Red Cross society of Dimapur, has re-launched a physical rehabilitation centre in Dimapur, Nagaland.
"Injuries inflicted by anti-personnel mines or other explosive weapons can lead to amputation, severe disability and psychological trauma. Folk singer Rameswar Pathak passed away at a private nursing home in Guwahati on Friday. The end came at around 5-15 at the GNRC in Guwahati where he was undergoing treatment for the last several weeks. A resident of a sleepy and interior village in lower Assam's Barpeta district, he came across a a long journey to go to the acme of glory. Within a short spell of time, Rameshwar discovered music as a part of his life. A pall of gloom is descending across the state following his death. His mortal remains would consign to flames on Saturday.
Congress high command has given AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh the party affairs in Assam in place of Union Minister M Veerappa Moily. Singh, who also looks after Uttar Pradesh, has been given the additional responsibility of Congress-ruled Assam at a time when the party is preparing for the crucial assembly elections likely to be held by mid next year. This was stated by party spokesman Janardan Dwivedi. Moily continues to be in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh.
