KOKRAJHAR, Feb 26: The 1st District Task Force (DTF) Meeting on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination was held at the DC Conference Hall, Kokrajhar, under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty to review preparedness for the upcoming vaccination programme in the district.
A detailed PowerPoint presentation was delivered by Dr. D. Bhowal, District Immunization Officer (DIO), Kokrajhar, followed by a block-wise review of logistical arrangements and readiness. The DIO informed that the Government of India has launched a special initiative to provide free HPV vaccination to all 14-year-old girls to prevent cervical cancer, the fourth most common cancer among women globally and the second most common in India.
Under the programme, Gardasil-4 (quadrivalent) vaccine will be administered free of cost to eligible beneficiaries, primarily Aadhaar card holders, for an initial period of three months after the launch, which may be extended depending on response and coverage. A medical officer will be present at each vaccination session site to ensure safety and proper monitoring.
Certificates will be issued to beneficiaries after vaccination, and the left index finger of each vaccinated girl will be marked to maintain accurate identification and avoid duplication. The meeting concluded with instructions to ensure smooth coordination among all departments for the successful rollout of the programme across the district.
