Assam's Bhoot Jolokia has become famous as the worlds hottest chilly a few months back. Guinness Book of World Records has awarded this title to our very own red chili and the media all across has been covering this event widely. But almost all reports in English named this chilly as “ghost chilly” translating the name directly from Assamese. In Assamese “bhut” stands for “ghost”.Bhot actually means people of Bhutan. Awarded chili is Bhot Jolokiya not Bhut Jolokiya In Assam everyone knows it. Some journalist made this mistake sometime back and it is continuing

Thanks to Mr. Neog for the report. Regarding the name of 'Bhoot jalakia' re(?)search should be done how this variety of chilly got this name. Hope to get feedback. Would like to know details about this variety.

Actually the so called bhoot chilly is entirely found in the north east region of India. So better not to comment on the name or whatsever. There is no doubt that it has got great quality .so dear, if u really want to know then contect me..

BTW..... its total bullsh** that its BHOT JOLOKIA.. its actually "bhoot jolokia" and it means ghost chilly in assamese because of the hot spicy taste it produces. and crossword jolokia is pronounced as jo-lo-ki-aa

India’s great singer of Assamese origin Dr. Bhupen Hazarika has been requested to perform on the occasion of the 60th Independence Day celebrations at the Parliament House, New Delhi. GUWAHATI: The body of abducted Food Corporation of India Executive Director (North Eastern Regional Office) Dr P.C. Ram was recovered from Anandapur village in Lower Assam’s Baksa district on Saturday. Baksa Superintendent of Police Kankanjyoti Saikia has intimated that the decomposed body of Dr Ram was dug up from the village. It was later identified to be that of the FCI official by his former domestic help Junu Murmu who is like his adopted daughter. The body was taken to Nalbari Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Our correspondent Guwahati Latest reports have confirmed that The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has killed the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Zonal manager Phul Chand Ram in their captivity. Dr Ram’s dead body has been found on Saturday. He was kidnapped by the militants on April 17, 2007 while he was on his way back to the capital. It has been learnt that ULFA was demanding a ransom of Rs 21 crores from Rams family but the police are yet to confirm it. Further details are awaited.
