Fierce gunfight erupted between security forces and militants at a polling station in Karbi Anglong district while two powerful IED were recovered in Assam's Autonomous District constituency where voting was held in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections day. BSF personnel deployed a polling station at Kharsing Athoi school in Karbi Anglong district exchanged fire with Karbi Longri National Front (KLNLF), who had allegedly planted an IED in the area which was recovered by the securitymen.
The exchange of fire continued for about 15 minutes after which the ultras managed to escape.
However, there was no casualty was reported in the incident. The KLNLF, which had indulged in violence in Karbi Anglong district prior to the polls, had withdrawn its 48-hour district bandh during voting saying it believed in the democratic process. A police patrol party detected another IED at Disobai in the same district prior to commencement of polling at 7 in the morning.
