Husori - indomitable part of Rongali Bihu

‘Huchari’ is an indispensable part of the Rangali Bihu. It is one of the several functions celebrated in the Rangali Bihu festival. It is sung on the very first day of the Cow Bihu. On that day, at night , the youngmen,under the guidance of the elders, go from house to house singing a kind of Bihu song known as ‘ Huchari’.

The youngmen at first go to the house of the village head and sing ‘Huchari”. Thereafter they go to each and every houses of the village and sing ‘Huchari’. Showing respect to the ‘Huchari’ team ,each family of the village honour the team with a piece of ‘Cheleng cloth,one beautifully designed ‘Gamocha’ and a few rupees. Accordingly,the ‘Huchari’ team also bless the respective family singing a special kind of religious song and pray to almighty for all round development on behalf of the family.

‘Huchari’ is sung for about a week. The rupees collected singing ‘Huchari’is often spent on the development work of the village Namghor, Schools,Library etc. Sometimes villagers also go for a feast with this money.

On the whole, ‘Huchari’ makes the air alive with the sounds of drums, flutes and cymbals.
