AASU organised ethnic cultural meet
AASU Kalaigaon celebrated Rangali Bihu by organizing an ethnic cultural meet at Swahid Bhaban premise on May 15.Several ethinic groups of Assam including Bado and tea tribe artists performed various folk cultures to the delight of thousands of people. Hoisting of the AASU flag by Arun Sarma,president,AASU Kalaigaon marked the beginning of the meet followed by homage paid to the martyrs, plantation of trees, quiz and painting competitions etc.
The open Bihu and various ethnic folk cultural performances had been the attraction of the evening. Eminent actor and director of Assam,Hemanta Dutta formally inaugurated the cultural meet at 6 pm in presence of thousands of people. Speaking on the occasion Dutta expressed his satisfaction and thanked AASU,Kalaigaon for organizing such a colorful event. He said all round development of various ethnic groups of Assam could only bring peace to Assam and cultural exchange had been the only possible means to achieve the goal. He criticized sections of people for damaging the original tune of Bihu. Four distinguished persons were felicitated on the occasion for their outstanding contribution to the society in the field of art and culture. Arun Sarma, president, AASU Kalaigaon presided over the proceeding. Several distinguished guests, namely-Pranjal Das,Circle Officer, Kalaigaon;social worker Mukunda Ram Choudhury of Guwahati; Manimoy Goaswami, president All Darrang AASU; Dimbeswar Baro, president, ABSU, Kalaigaon beside others attended the ceremony.

A minor girl dead and dozen others fell ill after they consumed prasad served at a religious function in Udalguri district on Friday. The tragic incident took place in Kalaigaon area where a ten year old girl died early in the morning. At least 71 others have complained of stomach ace and vomitting hours after they consumed prasad. The deceased was identified as Dipsikha Nath who died at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital. Talking to media, ADC DN Hazariaka said that the incident took place hours after they consumed prasad at the house of Harakanta Nath on Wednesday.
