The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has declared the results of the Higher Secondary examinations of 2009 in science, arts and commerce streams on Tuesday. Chayanika Baruah from Kakojan College of Jorhat tops the arts stream while Bidisha Agrawal of the Guwahati Commerce College Agrawal has topped the commerce. The first position in science stream this year goes to Manoj Swargiary, a private candidate in Barpeta district. The results are will be available at 11 in the morning in all district headquarters. The Council conducted the examination across the state in February.
The percentage of successful candidate in arts is 69.99 while the it is 72.11 in commerce and 80.23 in science stream. Darrang district takes the lead in arts stream while Nalbari district tops in science stream while and Dhemaji district steals the march in commerce stream.
Of 1,50,419 candidates in arts, 5,323 candidates have secured in first division, 17,179 second division and 72,917 candidates have been placed in third division. The total number of candidates this time in commerce stream is 11,682 and these 1,338 get first division, 2541 second and 4545 candidates have been placed in third division.
In science stream, out of 12,531 candidates 3,030 candidates have secired first division, 5,396 second division while the remaining 1,627 candidates have been planed in second division.

Defying the dangerous general strike call by the insurgent outfits Assam is celebrating the Independence Day with traditional fervor. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi urged the militant outfits operating in the state to come forward for peace. Unfurling the tricolor in the morning on Monday at the Latashil Playground, Gogoi said the peace process between government and the ULFA is on right direction and he hoped that the Paresh Baruah-led faction would also join the process to help Assam restore permanent peace. Defying militant diktat Assam is celebrating the Independence Day with much pomp and gaiety on Monday. Apprehending militant activities, the authorities have stepped up security across the state during the Independence Day. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is unfurling the national tricolor and inspected guard of honour by the army, police, para military forces and scouts and guides at the Latasheel Playground in Guwahati in the morning. A truck driver was killed and four others have been injured when suspected Karbi Peoples Liberation Tigers rebels opened fire on the borders of Karbi Anglong and Golaghat district on Saturday. The incident took place at around 5-30 in the morning on the National Highway No 37 in Bokakhat. The militants were firing from the Karbi Anglong side on a truck and another vehicle. The truck driver died on the spot, while the four passengers of the other vehicle were injured, two of them seriously.
