Inquisitiveness, curiosity n proudness filled me as I got ready to attend the 62nd Independence Day at Indian Embassy,Kuwait. As we drove to the Embassy at 6.30am to reach and be part of the flag hoisting at 7.10am ,my mind was filled with different thoughts…thoughts of the many Indenpence Day we celebrated in our motherland Assam under the shadow of Assam Bandh . My one year daughter too wake up early that day as if she understood the importance of this special day. As we approach’d the embassy my husband park’d our car atleast 1km from the embassy as there was no space as hundreds of cars were already parked. As we came near the embassy we were pleasantly surprised to see hundreds of Indians from different walks of life and some like me with infants. People had Indian Flags in their hands. I felt so happy and proud when my infant daughter too took a flag and was waving. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat, Mera Bharat Mahan echoed in the air. The “Borah Drummers”, the members are Guajarati Muslims exhibited their talent and skills. Small school children and Doctors community sang patriotic songs. The Indian Ambassador Ajai Malhotra hosted the national tri-colour flag as we all stood there with proudness. He read out the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh’s message ,the speech which he gave to millions of Indians from the Red Fort .He also read out the various facilities and schemes that the embassy has taken for thousands of Indian workers. After the cultural programme was over ,the Ambassador met the common people and listen to their grievances if any. Deep feeling of proudness enveloped thousands who gathered there to be part of such a celebration. Mughal Mahal, a famous Indian restaurant gave free breakfast (paratha,chola,sweets) to thousands of people who gathered . Free supplements on Independence Day were distributed by The Times(Kuwait’s premier weekly newspaper) and Arab Times(Kuwait’s national daily).
In a foreign country that too in a Middle East Muslim country like Kuwait we celebrated it so much fun, proudness and most importantly without fear, then why not in our motherland Assam??Can’t we be like rest of India and foreign countries in observing our Independence Day???When will such a day come???These thoughts filled my mind as we drove back home.
I remembered Jawaharlal Nehru’s Independence Day speech…. "Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we will redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again."
Its time for us, all assamese people to defy the Bandh and celebrate it with love, fun and frolic.

The Ambassador infact read out the President of India's message and not the Prime Minister's. Anyhow thanks to Parimita for sharing her thoughts. We too feel proud like her to be part of the celebrations of our great nation.

Pom-ba, it was a great coverage for us to know about how NRIs feel about their country and Independence. We Indians are actually, patriotic by birth; it is in our subconscious to feel great and own about our country. No matter where we live in heart we are always INDIANS, and the whole world today recognizes that.We must always endeavor to do better than before wherever we are, and mere that doing only will take our nation even higher and greater. This is regarding the report submitted by the 6thAssam Pay Commission. From the partial report made public by the Govt., it is apparent that apart from Grade-IV employees of Assam, no one is going to benefit from it. The so-called experts of the Pay Commission with Mr Bhaskar Barua (retd. IAS) and the Mr H S Das, Finance Secretary of Assam at the helm of affairs, have deliberately recommended a report with lot of discrepancies which may be summarised as follows -
1. Employees of the rank of Junior Engineers, Sub-Inspectors, others who are in the equivalent pay scale of 3490-8100...
Security forces are fanning the areas across Assam-Arunachal pradesh border in Dhemaji district a few hours after NDFB kidnapped a top ranked railway officer on Saturday. According to information, railway construction form BAPL's project manager Anchal Modi was whisked away at gun point by a group of miscreants from Simenchapori in Dhemaji district who are suspected to be the cadres of NDFB's Ranjan Daimary faction at around 12 noon on Saturday.
In yet another incident the Bodo rebel group kidnapped an irrigation SDO Nur Ahmed from Tangla in Darrang district on Saturday. Ahmed was kidnapped from Kawadanga area. Details are awaited.

An eye-check up camp for the media persons in Guwahati Press Club has made shocking revelation that most of the participants were advised for further course of treatment. Organized with the support from Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya on October 29 in the press club premises, the health camp was an eye-opening experience for the scribes, who had not used spectacles earlier (and now they are being advised to do so). A group of physicians from the Nethralaya hospital including Dr Jiten Bhattacharya, Dr Debojit Deka with Niranjan Bezbaruah, Dibyajyoti Das, Mrinal Medhi attended the camp, where nearly 100 media persons participated.
The Journalists’ Forum, Assam (JFA) on Tuesday hailed the Gauhati High Court decision to admit a revision petition on the Parag Kumar Das murder case as a glimmer of hope for those who still believe in the rule of law and expect a logical end to the lingering case. It was stated in a JFA statement.
The JFA also thanked the people of Assam for writing letters to the high court in the form of an appeal seeking a review of the sessions court verdict. Thousands of AGP leaders and workers gathered in Dispur on Monday demanding government action to bring down the price level. The workers who arrived in the city of Guwahati in the morning from different places of the state gathered at Khanapara and later took out a procession to Dispur alleging the government's failure to deal with the price hike. Talking to reporters, AGP leader and former minister Atul Bora said the government has been failing on all fronts and that the protest will continue untill and unless steps are taken to control the prices of essential commodities. Sri Sankardeva Nethralaya, in association with Guwahati Press Club has organized an eye check-up camp for scribes on October 29. The camp, to be held on the press club campus will begin at 9.30 AM. NDFB's pro truce faction secretary S Sangjarang was seriously injured when two suspected cadres of the breakaway faction attacked him in Udalguri on Wednesday. According to information, the incident took place in Udalguri at around 10 in the morning when Sangjarang was riding on a motorcycle. Two motorcycle born youths suspected to be the cadres of NDFB's third battalion started sprayed several rounds of bullets on him where he fell injured. The miscreants left the spot immediately after the incident. Later the pro truce NDFB leader was rushed to Nemcare Hospital for treatment. Police investigation is in progress.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit Asam soon. The confirmation came up as Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called on the Prime Minister Manmohan at New Delhi on Tuesday where they discussed the move by China to build a dam on the Brahmaputra.
Dr. Singh conveyed the Chief Minister that he will soon visit Assam to attend the Assam Agriculture University Convocation and foundation stone laying ceremony of Petroleum Technology Institute at Sibsagar.
Talking to reporters after his meeting with Dr Singh, Gogoi said there was no definite proof regarding setting up of dam by China.
