The court of Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate on Sunday remanded Ranjan Daimary to 14 days police custody after the NDFB chief was produced before the court. Daimary was produced in court three dasy after he was handed over to BSF by the Bangladesh Rifles who picked up in Sherpur near Dhaka on April 17.


Ranjan Daimary alias D R Nabla, chief of the anti-talks faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland and wanted in the 2008 serial bomb blasts in Assam, was on Saturday handed over to BSF by BDR. According to sources, Daimary, who was hiding in Bangladesh, was handed over by BDR near Dawki international border in Meghalaya in the wee hours. NDFB was originally formed under Daimary's leadership as Boro Security Force on 3rd October, 1986 and on 25th November, 1994, the outfit changed its name to NDFB.

THE GAME SEEMS MURKY: The handing over of ULFA-NDFB militants by Bangladesh to India, their ‘confession’ of triggering the Oct 30, 2008 serial blasts in Assam--- is this a political drama to hijack the reality? 1. How can outfits which used to plant bombs in bicycles and motor-bikes become so powerful in a few months as to mastermind blasts like in Lahore or Kabul? Where is the unseen angle of HUJI-ISI which emerged just after the blasts before the politicians and police gave a different colour? 2. Didn’t some quarters say that they have planned the blasts in retaliation of Bodo-Bangladeshi riots in Udalguri in the earlier part of 2008? 3. ULFA-NDFB denied involvement in the heineous crime. If I am not wrong, the NDFB had entered into a ceasefire with the government of India. Under such circumstances, what made Ranjan Daimari make its present felt to the Centre, as he claims now? 4. If we check the reports just after the blasts, a few men with doubtful citizenship were arrested in Morigaon. Where are they now? 5. If the 2008 clashes among the locals and Muslim migrants from East Bengal, why would NDFB hoist the flag of Pakistan in Udalguri? If the sole culprit is NDFB, they should have opted for the flag of China instead since their allegiance to the same racial origin. If there goes a saying, 'Something is wrong in the state of Denmark', we must say, everything is wrong in the state of Assam. All these questions will remain unanswered for the common but conscious people. In the entire tragic episode, the first casualty is the victims and their bereaved families. The second is the faith and trust of the citizens of a so called democracy.

Gogoi orders judicial probe into Dispur firing

The Assam Government has announced judicial probe into the Dispur firing clash where 3 persons including a minor boy lost their lives. The announcement came from Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who is expected to receive the Surajeet Mitra’s enquiry report on Monday. According to information, a panel of a retired high court judge would probe the entire incident where a section of KMSS –protesters turned violent as they were holding a rally in Dispur last gate on June 22. Initially, the government asked additional chief secretary Surajeet Mitra to probe the incident which is set to submit the report on Monday.

Minister’s brother attacked bus driver, injured eye critically

A bus driver was severely beaten up by some persons, including a brother of Manipur Health Minister, L Jayentakumar at Thangal village in Senapati district on Friday, police said. The bus driver, Ningthoujam Dhanakumar (40), a resident of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi, was hit by a tyre lever in the left eye as about five persons, including the brother of Jayentakumar , who were riding in a Bolero exchanged some hot words with him over giving side at Thangal village along NH-39. 3 NDFB cadres arrested in Guwahati

Despite heavy presence of security forces Guwahati still remains a deep den of NDFB rebels who might foment trouble at any time to make its presence felt. Police arrested three hardcore NDFB rebels in the city on Saturday. The trio were arrested during an operation launched at Gandhibasti area in the city in the wee hours. One of them is learnt to be Baikunth Narzary. Police interrogation is on. The arrest comes two days after NDFB chairman threatened to pull out of the peace process citing government lack of good will and sincerity.

Laos delegation talks business in Guwahati

A high level business delegation from Laos held a crucial round of talks with north eastern business leaders at the NEDFi House in Guwahati on Saturday. Led by chairman of Indian chamber of commerce in Laos Habib Choudhary, the delegation said that they are keen to invest in Assam and other north eastern states. Other members of the delegation include commerce minister, Dr Nam Viyaketh and tourism minister Somphong Mongkhonvilay.

Police nabbed three KYKL militants in Manipur

Three activists of proscribed KYKL, including one who was involved in the extortion of a huge amount of money from various fertilizer dealers in Manipur, have been nabbed by Imphal West police in the last two days, police said on Friday. The arrested cadres of the outfit are identified as Soram Ibohal(46) of Yairipok, Thoubal district, Ningombam Suranjoy Singh(44), a resident of Thangmeiband in Imphal West and Khuraijam Devenkishor(42) of Thangmeiband, Imphal West. Police said one 9mm pistol along with five live rounds were seized from Suranjoy.

Health Check-up concludes at press club

The city based Down Town Hospital in association with Guwahati Press Club has organized a health check-up camp for scribes at press club premises on June 30 (Thursday). Nearly 150 scribes and their closed relatives participated in the day long camp. The tests included blood sugar, lipid profile, diabetic and ECG, where most of the scribes showed satisfactory results. Of course, some of them were identified with high blood pressure and sugar. The attended physicians Dr Rupam Das (Diabetologist) and Dr Debraj Saikia (Cardiologist) advised the scribes few health tips during the consultation. Dr Hazarika’s condition improves

Much to a major relief, music maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s condition is believed to have improved on Thursday. Dr Hazarika who was not keeping well was admitted to the Kokilaben-Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai is still undergoing treatment. HC asks for details of Akhil case

Gauhati High Court on Thursday directed the Assam Government to submit before it the details of case diary and medical reports on KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi by July 6. A division bench of Justice B D Agarwalla issued the directive to Dispur when the court was hearing Akhil Gogoi’s bail petition on Thursday. Gogoi’s counsels told AssamTimes that the court will hear the bail with a special judge as the court will be remaining closed from Saturday.
