Zakaria too joins ICL

Indian Cricket League (ICL) has picked-up another cricketer from Assam and this time it is the former Ranji captain Zakaria Zuffri.The wicketkeeper batsman has signed the contract paper in Guwahati on Saturday.

With Zuffri, altogether six players from Assam, had signed the rebel Indian Cricket League. Abu Nascim Ahamed, Parvez Aziz and Sujay Tarafdar joined the party first and later Pritam Das and Arlen Konwar followed their steps.

Commenting on his decision to join the ICL, which is a brainchild of the Subhash Chandra-owned Essel Group, Zakaria said, "I was overlooked by the Assam Cricket Association for the last few years and I was also not sure whether they will give me proper opportunity this time too. On the other hand offer of the ICL was good and so I had decided to play for them."

The ICL will organize its next phase camp either Mysore or Delhi in the first week of October and all six cricketers of Assam will attend this camp.

Sri Sri Madhab Dev jayanti observed at Barpeta

The 522nd birth anniversary of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev, the great disciple of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev was observed here at historical Barpeta satra from today , which was established by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev. According to the programme, in the early morning the ‘Usha Kirtan’, and regular prayer and after then ‘Bhagawat Bhraman’ were held from the satra with ‘gayans-bayans’, Naam-Kirtan, along with Satriyas. The procession taken throughout the town and re-enter into the Barpeta satra later on.


In the evening there was a memorial meet on the memory of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev presided over by Basistha Debsarmah, Bura Satriya, Barpeta satra. In this meet the Deka Satriya of Barpeta satra Nabajit Das Pathak and Uddhab Das, secy, Sankardev- Madhabdev Mission, Barpeta were also addressed as the appointed speaker. In their address they explined in detail about the life and works of Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdev.In the evening the students of Barpeta Satra Sanskritik Mahavidyalaya performed various programmes along with the jhumura “ Chor-Dhara’.There will be naam by the aai-sakal ( women) at ‘Tupar Chotal’ at Satra campus. And in the evening there will be lightening of the lamp. Besides, the birth anniversary of Mahapurush Sri sri Madhabdev was also observed at Ganakkuchi and Sundaridiya Satra.

Baska bandh withdrawn

AAKRSA and ABSU have withdrawn 12 hour Baksa bandh on Thursday demanding exemplary punishment for the driver and his assistant who gangraped two a minor girl inside a passenger bus in Goreswar last week.

The organizations have finalized the decision after the authorities have assured them of stern action against the perpetrators.
Police have arrested one of the rapists who is being interrogated. Another is still absconding.     

NE butterfly meet in Bornadi

Butterfly lovers across the north eastern region are waiting for October 25. The spotlight is set to fall on Bornadi wildlife sanctuary in Udalguri district. Far from the madding crowd, the beautiful spot is preparing for butterfly meet where the experts will discuss the measures for butterfly conservation. 

Experts from other states are also expected to participate in the second butterfly meet in the region. 

Jointly organized by Butterflies of Northeast India Group, BAMOS, Ngunu Ziro and Aaranyak and WWF-India, the four day event will begin with focus on presentations by various resource persons. The participants will visit the Khalingduar-Bornadi area as part of the field study in the next three days.
