New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli. The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.
The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.
The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.

At least eight people have been injured when a section All Bodo Students' Union activist clashed with a group of Non-Bodo Protection Forum workers during band calls on Thursday. The ABSU had blocked the NH 31 at different places of Lower Assam in support of their various demands while the Forum had called a 12-hour Assam bandh demanding non-inclusion of non-Bodos within the Bodoland Territorial Council. At least 20 persons have been injured and properties worth lakh of rupees have been ravaged when a ravaging storm lashed many parts of Assam on Wednesday midnight. The midnight storm uprooted thousands of trees, electric and telephone posts disrupting surface communication in many places. The worst-hit areas include Kokrajhar and Barpeta districts where it at least 20 people sustained injury when their houses collapsed under the impact of the storm. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has welcomed the decision of Team Anna member Akhil Gogoi to form a political party.Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Wednesday, Gogoi said that Akhil's decision to form a political party is a welcome step. Assam and Meghalaya are set to get Spices Parks to promote value addition and help farmers by reducing their dependence on middlemen. According to information, feasibility study for the park in Meghalaya is under the process of preparation by the IIM-Shillong for which the report is awaiting. The representation received from the joint forum of Assam Tea Planters Association, North Eastern Tea Association and Bharatiya Cha Parishad has appealed for declaring tea as a national drink as it is consumed by large sections of people and this would also contribute to its brand building exercise.
