'Bhut jolokia is the world's hottest chilli

New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli.
The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.

The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.

The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

In tezpur we call it "Bih Jalokia".....everybody says it this way....

Bhut jolokia/naga jolokia is the future crop of the north east. We are doing commercial bhut jolokia cultivation at various site of Assam.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers. Same with Joha.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.

Security forces apprehended four hardcore GNLA militants in Goalpara district bordering Meghalaya on Wednesday. They were picked up from Krishnai area during a combing operation by police and Army’s Nineth Sikhla regiment. Acting on a tip off that four GNLA militants were hiding in the area, joint team of police and army launched the operation where they were picked up. The ministerial panel set up to deal with agitation against the Lower Subansiri hydel power project submitted its report before chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday. Led by the panel chairman and power minister Pradyut Bordoloi, the group of minister called on Gogoi at his official residence in Koinadhora where the final report was submitted. The panel was set up at the height of the simmering protest against the NHPC-owned big dam at Gerukamukh along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
One person was killed and four others were injured when a speeding passenger train hit them in the outskirts of Guwahati on Tuesday. The incident took place near Thakurbari in Chandrapur area at around 10-30 in the morning. The deceased and the injured were all employees of the Northeast Frontier Railway. Some trackmen were working on the two railway tracks in the area when two trains passed by simultaneously and the Nagaon-bound Kolongpar Express hit the workers. Assam Police constable Abhijit Baruah on Tuesday officially entered in the Guinness World Records as the longest barefoot runner three months after he ran 156.2 km in 24 hours. The 20 year old Baruah, who hails from Jorhat scripted the history on January 30 this year when he started his run at 3.56 p.m. and ended it at 3.56 p.m. the following day. On May 28 last year, Abhijit -- also a black belt in karate and kickboxing -- had run 150 km in 26 hours and 31 minutes and entered his name in the Limca Book of Records.
