New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli. The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.
The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.
The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.

Tamil Nadu rescued eight child labourers from Assam from a textile mill on Sunday. According to information, acting on a tip off, a team of revenue officials on Saturday visited the mill in Suburban Asokapuram area and rescued the labourers -- all aged between 17 and 21. A hunt was on for the mill owner who is absconding.
The rescued labourers told the officials that the owner had promised to pay them Rs 100 as daily wage besides free food when they joined the mill three months ago. They were provided free residential sheds inside the mill.

Senior Assam minister Dinesh Prasad Goala fainted for a brief period halfway through his address at the Independence day function in Silchar town. Delivering address at the District Sports Association (DSA) ground, Goala suddenly passed out and appeared to slouch.
A father and son duo were killed in a clash arising out of land dispute in Lakhimpur district on Sunday. According to information, the duo were killed over construction of a boundary wall on their land at Santapur. His wife was seriously injured in the clash and admitted to hospital for treatment. Tension grips in Sonari a day after some armed miscreants atacked a police barrack built up in in Charaipung bordering Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. According to information, the miscreants, with black cloth tied around their faces and dressed in battle fatigue, swooped on the empty broken barrack, about 5km away from Charaipung police outpost, and broke it down early morning.None was injured in the attack as the location is an isolated one and nobody was present in the barrack.The involvement of encroachers is suspected, as militants would not be benefited from making attacks in the area lying along the inter-state border.
