New Delhi: We all remember it. The moms and the aita’s used to talk about it in the kitchen. “Bhut jolokia or 'ghost chillies' of Tezpur figure has found a mention in the Time Magazine's latest issue as the world's hottest chilli.
The magazine's cover story that takes a look at the culinary specialities and peculiarities around the world has zeroed in on the burnt orange pods, developed in a military laboratory in Tezpur, as packing the deadliest punch.

The article on 'Global Warming' notes that the bhut jolokia, also called the Naga chilli, carries the sort of heat that one normally would find only in the hottest chilli sauces made from pure pepper extract.

As you have mentioned that Naga -Chili is developed at DRL , Tezpur , rather it has been tested there and claimed for the first time that it is the world's hottest chili. Finally New Maxico state University( Chile Pepper Institute ) brought it into lime light.

The BHUT of Bhut Jalakia is not GHOST. It is actually BHOOT meaning Hill Peaple of North, specifically the people of present day Arunachal Pradesh. And the name Naga Chili is seldom used.

Bhut jolokia/naga jolokia is the future crop of the north east. We are doing commercial bhut jolokia cultivation at various site of Assam.

BHUT of bhut jolokia meaning ghost (READERS DIGEST)??.. A BIT CONFUSING. Anyway this is one of the profitable crop for our farmers. ASSAM BHOOT JOLOKIA should get GSI.

We should immediately apply for GI or else we will lose. This is an indigeneous product and only Assam should benifit. We should encourage only son of soil Assamese growers, promoters and buyers. Same with Joha.

when I was Sr.Manager of a Tea garden in upper assam I used the pickle of bhoot jolokia rather the oil to deter Green leaf theives (which was a menacein upper Assam gardens)on my own way and got the tittle "Jolokia sahab" from the villegers.Stil we are growing in our kitchen garden and best use the pickle during summer.

I was at TGIF last eve & had my first opportunity to taste Red JOLOKIA Paste on my chicken wings, though it won me a free pint but I am definitely not going to repeat that. However would like to try out green Jolokia sometime.

Major disaster averted in school as truck stops at LP school

Road accident in Dhubri: 6 killed

Altogether six persons died at a tragic road accident in Dhubri on Monday night sending shockwaves across the district. According to information, the accident took place, as their Maruti Van collided its head on a truck at the National Highway No 31 near Targhat in Dhubri. Another kid who sustained serious injury is undergoing treatment at the Dhubri Civil Hospital.According to eyewitness, the Maruti van was on its way to Dhubri coming from Bilasipara which collided its head on a truck which was coming from the opposite side. Truck accident in Baithalangsu: 3 killed

Atleast 3 persons died and five injured as a truck fell on a deep gorge in Karbi Anglong disitrct on Monday evening. According to information, the incident took place at around 8 in the evening at an inaccessable area in between Neli and Ulukunchi under Baithalangsu.

Devastating fire at Paltanbazar

A devastating fire that broke out at Paltanbazar area in the city of Guwahati ravaged properties on Monday morning. AGP announces list of candidates

The Asom Gana Paroshad on Monday has announced the full list of its candidates fielding former minister Gunin Hazarika from Kaliabor and Sabda Rabha from Kokrajhar for the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.The announcement was made at a press conference in Guwahati on Monday where Bhupen Rai's name was announced as the candidate for Barpeta. Third front falls flat

The much-hyped third front is set to fall flat in its bid to have a non Congress and non BJP government. AGP list of candidates coming up on Monday

The Asom Gana Parishad will announce the list of the candidates on Monday for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated in Assam for April 16 and 23.
