Media Persons deserve support: Ghatowar

The DoNER minister P. S. Ghatowar, while appreciating the role of media in India, criticized a section of newspaper and news channels for their exaggerated news with an imposed views and also unwanted role of journalists as ‘fortune-teller’ in the time of elections. The soft-spoken politician from eastern Assam also highlighted about the limitation of resources faced by the working journalists in the State.


“The journalists and other media employees deserve necessary support and care from the managements and the society in general. We should extend our supports to the media persons such that they can reciprocate it for the growth of our nation,” Ghatowar, also a former State labour minister added.


Inaugurating the upper Assam office of News Network, a newly launched news channel from Guwahati, on January 17 at Padmini Resorts at Tinsukia, the central minister also urged the media persons to dedicate their time and space for the benefit of common people and also the conservation of nature.


Welcoming the gathering, Rana Zaman, CMD of News Network, committed for all possible help and cooperation for a news channel that is needed to ‘maintain the credibility and authenticity of any news and other programmes telecast’ through it. This is a mission to be accomplished by News Network and hopefully it would never be deprived of the required supports from the civil society groups and the subscribers in this endeavor, Zaman added.


Two distinguished personalities based in the locality namely Purnananda Barua, a senior journalist and Jainal Abedin, an acclaimed conservationist were felicitated on the occasion. Another senior journalist Himen Bhattacharjee, who is the president of Tinsukia District Journalist Association, argued that many media house-owners were showing reluctance in selecting the honest and dedicated representatives from different parts of Assam. He asserted that without the contribution from committed media correspondents no media house can support the cause of authentic journalism.


Two MLAs namely R. P. Singh (from Tinsukia) and Raju Sahu (from Chabua) also addressed the audience, where the popular singer Lohit Gogoi presented a song dedicated to the success of News Network. The editor of the news channel, Nava Thakuria assured that News Network would try its best to provide space for broader discussion relating to various burning issues of the society. The meeting was concluded with the vote of thanks offered by Sanjiv Prakash, the news editor of News Network.

Fortnightly Prekshan launched

A fortnightly Assamese news magazine named Pasekhia Prekshan was launched today in Guwahati Press Club. The first issue of the news magazine was inaugurated by Nava Thakuria, a city based journalist. Published by Bitopan Das, the news magazine is edited by Nataraj Das, Utpal Das and Anup Talukdar. The market price for the issue of Prekshan is fixed at rupees twelve. Body-fat check up camp concludes in press club

Most of the journalists who attended the body-fat check-up camp for scribes in Guwahati Press Club today (Wednesday) diagnosed with preliminary obesity problems.Organized by Wellness Centre, Guwahati the camp witnessed nearly 100 media persons' participation in the camp. While the male journalists were diagnosed with overweight, most of the female scribes were reported under weight.SN Dutta, nutrition and weight management consultant supervised the camp, where visceral fat, sub-cutaneous fat, muscle mass, body metabolic age, body mass index etc were also examined.

Journalist body urges political parties to manifest their gestures

As the nation prepares for the next general election, Journalists' Forum Assam (JFA) has urged all political parties to show their sincerity towards the implementation of various welfare schemes to media persons engaged in both print & electronic media. Manual Therapy & Pain Relief camp concludes at press club

A free health camp on manual therapy and pain relief for media persons was organized at Guwahati Press Club today by Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) and College of Physiotherapy & Medical Sciences (CPMS), Guwahati. Over 50 journalists participated in the camp that started at 10 am. Most of the participants diagnosed with continuous pain in neck and back. The camp, conducted under the leadership of IAP president Dr Uma Shankar Mohanty and CPMS principal Dr Ujjal Bhattacharya with physiotherapists Dr Munmun Singha & Dr Kundan Kumar, concluded by 2 pm.

Camp on Manual Therapy and Pain Relief

A free health camp on manual therapy and pain relief for media persons has been organized at Guwahati Press Club on March 9 (Sunday). The camp, to be conducted under the leadership of Dr Uma Shankar Mohanty, president of Manual Therapy Foundation of India, will begin at 10 am and conclude by 2 pm. Member-journalists are requested to participate in the physiotherapy camp.

JFA urges PCI to intervene on Guwahati newspaper-distribution impasse

All Assam Media Employees Federation (AAMEF) welcomes the recent landmark judgment of the Supreme Court of India upholding the constitutionality of the Majithia Wage Board for journalist & non-journalist media employees. The three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice P.
