Rongali Bihu Celebrated in The UAE


The UAE based expatriate community from Assam celebrated Rongali Bihu in Dubai on 06/04/2012. A grand and colourful function was held to mark the occasion. The Indian Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Mr. M.K Lokesh, graced the function as the chief guest and profusely admired the rich cultural heritage of Assam. He was treated to a visually delightful Husori by some talented members of the community. Earlier in the evening a souvenir titled “Probaxi Bihuwan” was released by the Ambasador.


Traditional savories and an entertaining cultural program were the highlights of the evening. Singing stars Dikshu Sharma and Priyanka Bharali flew down all the way from Assam to regale the audience with a bouquet of traditional and modern Assamese songs. They also rendered some popular Hindi numbers.


The scintillating Husori was performed by a large troupe comprising Partha Pratim Goswami, Utpal Baruah,Tirtha Sharma,Sumon Bordoloi,Lekhok Boruah, Arindam Baruah, Dimple Bhagowati, Suman Khound, Shyamali Bora, Pankhee Bhattacharyya, Pratyashee Gogoi,Kabyashree Borgohain,Dipak Tumung,Arindam Baruah, Saroj Singha, Tandeep Bhagowati and Girish Boro.



Earlier in the evening, the audience was treated to a variety of modern Assamese and Hindi songs rendered by a host of performers namely Pooja Goswami, Utpal Baruah, Tandeep Bhagowati, Arindam Baruah and Geeta Bordoloi. They were supported by Neel Lahkar (Pad),Utpal Baruah (Guitar), Tirtha Sarma (Arabic Drum) , Arindam Baruah (Lead Guitar) ,Sumon Bordoloi (Drum),Girish Boro (Bass Guitar) , Abhirup Bhattacharya and Rushika Das (Key Board). Further Rushika Das played a Borgeet on the key board while youngster Anjali Chorei performed a modern Assamese dance number.


Another highlight of the cultural program was a chorus performed by Dimple Bhagowati, Juri Bhattarcharya, Suman Khound, Gargee Goswami, Pankhee Bhattarcharyya, Sumon Bordoloi, Abhijit Bhattarcharya, Amitangshu Dev Choudhury, Pallav Goswami, Bidyut Saikia, Lekhok Boruah , Arindam Baruah (Guitar),Tirtha Sharma (Tabla) and Abhirup Bhattacharya (Keyboard)
