61st Foundation Day of DHAC concludes
The 61st Foundation Day of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council was celebrated in a grand manner. The 2 (Two) day long programme started from 28th April where the Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council inaugurated the Exhibition Stalls of different Development Departments at Council Secretariat Field, Haflong. Later in the day, a seminar on the DHAC and Johor Bodo Memorial Cultural night was also held. On the auspicious day of the 29th of April, a procession was held from the Haflong Cultural Institute Hall to the Council Secretariat where a large number of people took part including the CEM, EM’s, Mac’s, Officials, School students and others. In the public meeting at 11 AM the MP Shri.
Biren Sing Engti graced the function as the Chief Guest. In his address to the gathering the Chief Guest spoke about the means for development concerning the District. To develop the district he says that the 3 most important fields are development in communication, education, Industry and encouraged small-scale industries.
The Chief Executive Member, Shri. Debojeet Thaosen also gave his valuable speech by saying that this day is one of the most important day for the people of the district. He condemned the various organizations who had called a Bandh on the day which he says is disrespectful to the occasion which the Chief Minister Shri.Tarun Gogoi was supposed to grace as Chief Guest but could not do so. He also mentioned on the various developmental activities in the educational fields and other fields.
Shri. Y.L Karna, vice-chairman of the National Integration Council of Assam also graced the occasion. The meeting was also marked by different cultural shows, traditional delicacies and the various release of publications such as Souvenir of DHAC, Dima Hasao-an unexplored destination in CD and Print along with Luxuriant Dima Hasao Green which was produced by the Forest Department .The Department of Information and Public Relations, Haflong also released 3 (Three) publications on the occasion. The names of the publications are Dima Hasao-Tourist Guide, Multi Lingual WordBook-ii and Photo postcard of the Colourful people of Dima Hasao.The day was also marked with the inauguration of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council website. The programme will sum up with a Bhupen Hazarika Memorial Cultural Night where Shri. Sadananda Gogoi, a renowned singer from Assam and the Band called Colours from Shillong will be performing in the evening with fireworks from the council premises.

Based on specific input about a cache of hidden weapons in general area of Damsodiang Phai (Daiphai) village under Maibang Police Station, a troops of 9 MADRAS along with Assam Police personnel launched a search operation to recover the said cache on Wednesday. While searching the area outside the village in the nearby jungle, a weapon cache was found hidden underground wrapped in polythene. In an effort to resurrect the life of person who have bid good bye to insurgency and decided to lead a dignified life, the Haflong based Assam Rifles Sector had initiated a pilot project for rehabilitation of these surrendered cadres and had trained 35 of them under various vocational trades from industrial training institute (ITI) Haflong from 16 Jul 2012 to 20 Oct 2012.
