Ministry of health & family welfare has awarded a special centre of excellence grant of Rs 5 crore for the development of the Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute.
An official statement received here informs that the grant will be utilised for procurement of sophisticated medical equipment.
Another sanction is for the District Cancer Control Programme to be carried out in Morigaon, Nagaon and Kamrup districts.
According to information, the project will continue for 10 years and it is likely to be launched from January 1, 2008.
The Ministry has also a plan to upgrade the existing telemedicine unit along with six other centres in the country as per Onconet project of the Ministry.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Health Services has nominated Dr AC Kataki, Director of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute as one of the members of the prestigious Steering Committee of National Cancer Registry Programme.
