The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA ) has appealed to the Government of Assam to initiate a high level impartial probe into the allegation leveled by an activist against a television journalist involved with the incident of molestation of a girl at GS Road of the city on July 9, 2012 evening.
In an emergency meeting held at Guwahati Press Club today, the forum also demanded the State chief minister Tarun Gogoi, also in charge of Home department, to initiate for a collective analysis of all the forage of the incident after forensic test.
The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) ladder Akhil Gogoi had alleged in a press meet yesterday that Gaurav Jyoti Neog of News Live was involved with the incident of molestation of the girl. The EMFA urged the KMSS leader to submit the proof to support his allegation, and subsequently the activist organized a press meet today to expose the involvement of the journalist in the shameful incident.
The EMFA resolved in the meeting that the visuals presented by the KMSS leader were not sufficient enough to substantiate all claims made against the concerned journalist as being the instigator of the incident. The visuals shown by the activist was not supported by the raw footage of the incident, rather it was an edited DVD format, where there remains possibility of doctoring.
Hence the forum demands that FSL test must include the raw footage of the incident (still possessed by Akhil Gogoi as he claimed in a press meet today), the DVD with the same content offered to SSP Apurba Jiban Barua by the News Live and the DVD handed over to EMFA by him after today’s press meet.
Meanwhile, the forum argues that Gaurav could have (should have) called the police first from the location of July 9 incident and then asked the office to send the camerapersons.The EMFA reiterates that it endorses the rule of law and journalists must behave as the law abiding citizens of the country always. Hence it believes that the law of the land will take its own course in this respect as well.
