Award to Ajit Baruah

The Nijara Kavi Sailadhar Rajkhowa Memorial Award committee has selected eminent Assamese Poet and Critic Ajit Baruah for the 2007 Nijara Kavi Sailadhar Rajkhowa Memorial Award.

The award, instituted to keep the memory of Sailadhar Rajkhowa alive and to acknowledge the contribution made in the field of Assamese verse or drama, carries Rs.12,000 in cash and a citation.

The award will be presented to Baruah on December 17.

Retired principal dies

Hira Mohan Borthakur, the retired principal of thr Kanpur Higher Secondary & Multi Purpose School died after prolonged illness on Sunday. . Narrow escape for PWD engineer

The additional chief engineer of state PWD department had a narrow escape as the Alto car ( AS 01 DF 9185 ) he was driving turned turtle after hitting into divider on NH 37 near Raha chariali on Thursday noon. The locals immediately reached the spot and the victim was taken out of the car safely. A 70-year-old man and his wife was allegedly beaten and forced to consume  human faeces ,  urine after the villagers suspected them to be witch. Sensation prevails here at Raha on Monday after a 30-year-old woman allegedly poisoned her two children before attempting suicide at her residence in Bamunia Gaon at Raha on Sunday night. Silapathar incident condemned at Raha

The Raha unit of All Assam Students' Union ( AASU ) on Tuesday condemned the Silapathar incident and demanded the arrest of culprits immediately. The AASU unit also threatened to launch an agitation if the culprits are not apprehended soon. Three Adivasi Tiger Force ( ATF ) insurgents were arrested with 5 live grenades from Rajagaon village , Kachua on Friday night. APBN personnel beaten up in Roha

The locals of Bagariguri area near Roha severely beat an Assam Rifles personnel posted in Kohima suspecting him to be a dacoit. Girls outnumber boys in Raha

The first day of class X  High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination passed off peacefully at the Raha H.S.School centre today . Adivasi rebels held at Thekeraguri

In a joint operation the Nagaon and Raha police led by Nagaon ASP Sanjib Saikia and Yashobonto Nath, officer in-charge of Raha PS apprehended six militants belonging to the Adivasi Tiger Force (ATF) on Monday night at Thekeraguri under Raha PS.
