Maram FC of Tura lifts Independence Day Trophy

With two Nigerian players, Maram FC, Tura of Meghalaya lifted the Independence Day Trophy defeating Dudhnoi Chenimari Footbal Club by 3-1 in the final of the Golden Jubilee year of prestigeous 50th Independence Day Soccer Tournament at Sakhati playground near Dhupdhara today on Sunday. The tournament was organized by Sakhati, Bondapara, Odalpara and Khatajuli football joint committees. A goal each by Silang Momin (10th), Nigerian player Christian Agwu (15th) and Jackee Marak (50th) put the aggressive Maram FC side in the driver’s seat. However, one goal by Dudhnoi Chenimari team through Dibyajit Rabha (25th) brought momentum in the match. However, Maram FC successfully defended their two-goal lead till the final whistle. After a series of abortive attacks, Maram FC midfielder Silang Momin scored first when his right footer from the right-corner of the box beat the opposition goalkeeper. Nigerian foreward Christian Agwu doubled the lead in the 15th minute while Jackee Marak scored the third goal in the 67th minute. Despite slippery underfoot conditions, caused by drizzling shortly after the match began Maram FC dominated the proceeding by keeping possession of the ball. Maram FC lifted the coveted trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 15 thousands. Jackee Marak of champion team bagged Man of the Final award while Karmeswar Rabha won the highest goal scorer prize.
