To accelerate efforts and fight against the deadly disease HIV/AIDS, the World Aids Day was observed at Pasighat General Hospital.
To mark the event, the doctors along with staffs, health assistants, NGOs and ANM trainees took out a rally and moved around the township with slogans and banners ‘Stop AIDS, keep the promise’. It was formally flagged-off by the DC In-charge Nidhi Srivastava amid huge gathering inside the hospital campus.
The celebration is symbolically a call to enhance social protection mechanism and a symbol of solidarity and support towards the people living with HIV, stated Srivastava during the observation. She while advising the participants to renew the commitment to fight against AIDS informed that along with the government, numerous social welfare organization are constantly striving and taking initiatives on AIDS awareness to reach both in urban and rural areas.
A seminar was also organized on the day at the hospital auditorium which was actively participated by the doctors, NGOs and ANM trainees. Dr. B Apum (MD), Senior Microbiologist presented a brief report on various developments on AIDS control and preventive measures of the state through power-point presentation with the theme “Getting to Zero”. She informed that altogether 202 persons have been found AIDS positive while 132 persons are taking medical treatment so far in the state.
In his message the DDHS Dr. Kabang Lego said there is no permanent cure for this disease so far and prevention and compassion are the most reliable ways to deal with this dreaded disease taking care of the people who are afflicted with the deadly HIV. Seeking public supports he said the infected patients also have the right to live with dignity and we must cooperate and help them. Lego added.
The hospital provides free counseling on the HIV-AIDS but we certainly need to do a lot in order to achieve our goal extending better services to the people especially living in far flung and difficult-to-reach areas said the Medical Superintendent Dr. Onik Moyong.

It’s a narrow escape from a powerful explosion in Barpeta Road. Police recovered a powerful bomb from a train track in Barpeta Road railway station on Wednesday.Weighing 800 gm, the explosive was planted with electrical wires, was hidden under boulders of track number one on platform two.After noticing it, a local resident informed the police who later defused the bomb at around 9.30 in the morning. But by then a train left the spot.Police cordoned off the area and took away the bomb to be safely defused later. Good news for government employees. Dispur has raised the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for its employees and pensioners from 65 to 72 per cent. The revision is effective from July 1.Following the increase, the DA will be at par with Central Government employees. Atleast three children were feared to have met watery grave after two boats collided in the river Brahmaputra in Barpeta district on Tuesday.The incident took place on Monday midnight when a country-made boat collided with another boat in the Brahmaputra river at the remote Pub Aandabhanga-Saldiyapara area of Chenga. A 50 member special contingent of special security unit has left for Kaziranga to counter the poachers who have already killed more than 15 rhinos.
