AASU observes Martyers Day at Raha

Bangladshi immigrants become the king maker of Assam. The government of Assam gives Rs.2 lacks to those who have picked up arms but the same government neglects the family members of those martyers’ who lost their lives during the time of the Assam agitation and pays nothing to them. Despite having prior information about the Kokrajhar incident, the chief minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, and the government of Assam didn’t act properly. They failed to send in the police, paramilitary or adopt any mechanism to control the situation. In that incident, the people who are affected are the Bodos, the Koch Rajbongshi, the Gurkhas, the adivasis and the indigenous Muslims. There is no clash between the indigenous Muslims and the Hindus. They are both being affected and must be rehabilitated. Those who are illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, who have come after 1971, should not get housing and land in the name of rehabilitation. We call upon the indigenous people living in Assam to be alert so that no Bangladshi can own land in your place. The Assam Accord was signed in 1985 but has yet not been implemented. The government of India can seal the western border of the country in three years, why can’t they seal the Assam sector of the India-Bangladesh border, which is merely a 272-kilometer (170-mile) stretch? This was observed by Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattasarya while delivering his speech as a Chief guest on the occasion of Swahid Divas observed at Raha on Monday.

To commemorate the first martyr of the Assam Agitation, Khargeshwar Talukdar, the All Assam Students’ Union ( AASU ) observed Swahid Divas centrally at Raha on Monday under the auspices of the Nagaon district unit of AASU in collaboration with Raha AASU unit and the local people with a one day programme.

The programme began with the hoisting of AASU flag by its president Sankar Prasad Rai. In his speech, Rai recalled supreme sacrifices made by the martyers during the Assam agitation. He said AASU has taken initiatives to make a Bangladeshi free Assam and will fight for the same forever.

The swahid tarpan was initiated by AASU general secretary Tapan Gogoi, while floral tributes were paid to the martyers’ by all present on the occasion. The open session held on the occasion was chaired by the AASU president Sankar Prasad Rai. Bijoy Borthakur, former vice president of AASU also attended the function.

A host of dignitaries, including Indra Bania, renowned assamese actor, Dr. Bed Kumar Saliha, Pricipal, Raha college, Hirannya Narayan Bora, ex-principal, Raha H.S.School, Prahlad Masrong, President, All Tiwa Students’ Union ( ATSU ) were present in the meeting. In the open session, AASU accorded warm felicitation to the family members of the Assam agitation martyers’.
