Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Idol immersion to complete by noon

The Durga puja din and bustle have died down when the idols of the goddess were immersed on Friday. The immersion started from Thursday afternoon across the state. But all committees will complete the immersion process only on Friday. In Guwahati also, at least 100 puja committees immersed the idols in three places on the river Brahmaputra which took place till midnight. Others in the premier north eastern city are preparing to immerse the idols by 12 noon at the initiatives of the district administration. People thronged in thousands at Kachari Ghat, Pandu Ghat and Noonmati to see the immersion from early in the morning.

Brinks Arya driver held; HDFC cash seized

In a major achievement, Guwahati police and their Goalpara counterpart have arrested four youths in connection with the HDFC case where a Brink Arya driver had gone missing with Rs 1.80 crore in cash meant to be put in ATM counters.According to Guwahati Police Commissioner, the arrested youths include the driver Rumud Barman who smartly disappeared from Ganeshguri with the entire amount in cash when three others from the bank and service provider went inside an ATM booth.A joint team of police caught Rumud along with four others from Krishnai area and seized Rs 1.15 crore from them they kept with some of their relatives. Steps for Durga idol immersion

Amid a massive security arrangement Durga puja organizers are preparing to immerse the idols of the goddess on Thursday.  But a section of the organizers is refusing immerse the idols. This has forced the authorities to ask all Durga puja organizers to immerse the idols of the goddess on a same day. Guwahati is also gearing up for the immersion ceremony on the river Brahmaputra. Australian couple attacked in Jorhat

Four drunken youths have attacked a foreign couple in Jorhat on Tuesday night forcing police to launch an operation in search of the youths.According to information, four youths waylaid the Australian couple Brand Steter Werner and his wife Susanne Regina on the way back to the town from Kokilamukh and tried to storm into the Mercedes Benz caravan. The youths spoke to them in Assamese who was not understood by the foreign couple. Driver missing with cash

The Guwahati policemen are launching an operation in search of a Brinks Arya driver who went missing with a huge amount of money from the city he was carrying to put in ATM booths along with three others.Identified as Rubul Barman, he went missing from Ganesguri area when a HDFC bank official, security guard and an ATM worker were depositing cash at an ATM booth. The driver took Rs 1.80 crore in cash from the vehicle and vanished from the scene. When the three others returned to the vehicle the driver was not found inside the vehicle forcing them to move police. The police have detained the HDFC bank official and security guard for questionings.
