Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

The Durga puja din and bustle have died down when the idols of the goddess were immersed on Friday. The immersion started from Thursday afternoon across the state. But all committees will complete the immersion process only on Friday. In Guwahati also, at least 100 puja committees immersed the idols in three places on the river Brahmaputra which took place till midnight. Others in the premier north eastern city are preparing to immerse the idols by 12 noon at the initiatives of the district administration. People thronged in thousands at Kachari Ghat, Pandu Ghat and Noonmati to see the immersion from early in the morning.

This has forced the authorities to ask all Durga puja organizers to immerse the idols of the goddess on a same day. Guwahati is also gearing up for the immersion ceremony on the river Brahmaputra. The Guwahati policemen are launching an operation in search of a Brinks Arya driver who went missing with a huge amount of money from the city he was carrying to put in ATM booths along with three others.Identified as Rubul Barman, he went missing from Ganesguri area when a HDFC bank official, security guard and an ATM worker were depositing cash at an ATM booth. The driver took Rs 1.80 crore in cash from the vehicle and vanished from the scene. When the three others returned to the vehicle the driver was not found inside the vehicle forcing them to move police.
