Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Woman gangraped in Rongiya

The Kamrup(rural) police have arrested three persons on Friday a day after the trio along with 4 others gangraped a woman in Rangiya after beating up her husband. According to police, Pankaj Das,  Tilak Das and Nareshwar Das have been held in this connection while search operation is on to nab Sonmoni Das, Prabhat Das, Satish Das and Dipak Das.The incident took place on Thursday night when 7 persons stormed into a house in Kekenikuchi where a newly-wed couple from Baska stayed for the night. Vaiphei new Gauhati HC Chief Justice

Senior most Gauhati High Court judge Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei will take over as the Chief Justice on October 21. Assam Governor PB Acharya will administer Vaiphei the oath of office and secrecy at a function in the Raj Bhawan on that day.President Pranab Mukherjee appointed him to replace acting Chief Justice Kazarian Srecdhar Rao who is retiring on that day.  

Girl found dead inside moving train

The death of a girl passenger inside a moving train sends no less sensation in Hojai on Friday. Identified as Anima Tanti, she was found dead inside the Guwahati-Ledo Intercity Express at Hojai station on Thursday midnight. Tani, who was an employee with a non governmental organization in Guwahati was on her way to Doomdooma on Thursday evening. The real cause of the incident has yet to be ascertained. Investigation is going on. 

15 hurt in bus accident

At least 15 people sustained injury when the passenger bus carrying them from Dhubri met with a mishap in Guwahati on Friday.The mishap took place at Jalukbari in the wee hours where the Guwahati-bound slipped into a gorge after the driver was believed to have lost control over it. Police and local residents rushed the injured passengers to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. The driver managed to escape from the spot.

Retd HC judge to probe APSC anomalies

Another poor family commits suicide

Yet another poor family is believed to have committed suicide sending no less shock and sensation across the state of Assam on Thursday. The fresh incident took place in Bongaiogaon district where local resident of Salbagan area in Bongaigaon town Sanjoy Bose, his wife Rumpa and 5 year old daughter Pujur commited suicide on Thursday wee hours. Sanjoy was found hanging from a fan. Local residents found Rumpa and and Pujur lying face down on a bed nearby. CBI to probe APSC chief's property

Trouble brews for Rakesh Paul after the Gauhati High Court has ordered CBI probe into the allegations of amassing huge property using his position as the APSC chairman.  Hearing two PILs on Thursday a division bench of the court comprising acting Chief Justice K.
