Deplorable condition of Assam-Nagaland border area

The government has claimed to be spending huge amount of money for development of the Assam-Nagaland border areas. But the real development is far away. People in the remote area of Gelakey border areas are living in a deplorable condition; Lahdoigarh, Sunapur, Borhollah, Singibill etc. of Gelakey border areas under Nazira sub-division are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of proper road, bridge, water, electricity etc. The so called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme is not able to reach these areas till today.

Nagaland has already occupied over 1000 Bighas of forest land of Assam. They have set-up one polling station at Borhollah in their recently held general election. According to the villagers of these areas, till today there is no any clear distinction or sign between the cadastral revenue village and forest-land in the border areas.

To prevent the Naga aggression in Gelakey border the state govt. set-up 3 nos. og  BOPs (Border Out Post) at Singibill, Borhollah and Sunapur in 2007, but till today the quantity of battalions in these three BOPs are not adequate and the battalions who deployed here are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of basic amenities like drinking water, light and infrastructure. The tube-well of Borhollah BOP is the only source of drinking water of entire Borhollah Village.

After heavy campagin and war of words among different political parties, the first phase of panchayat poll held peacefully in Nazira with over 60% turn out to decide the fate of 14 Zila Parishad candidates, 68 Gaon Panchayat presidents, 68 Anchalik Parishad members and 480 Ward Members of Nazira Anchalik Panchayat. A total of 624 candidates are contesting in Nazira. 19 ward members of Congress(I) and one ward member of CPI have already elected as uncontested. There was no any report of untoward incidents in Nazira.
Poet and ex.president of Sivasagar district Xahitya Sabha Kamal Kachari passed away at Maduri, Nazira on January 27. He was 75. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and 2 sons. Different people and organisations condoled in his death.
Alongwith the rest of country, the 64th Republic Day was colourfully celebrated at Nazira under the aegis of Nazira Civil Aadministration with a day-long programme. The ceremonial function was started from 8-15 am at Nazira Play ground.  P.K.Das, SDO(C), Nazira hosted the National Flag. On this occasion 3 freedom fighters and 3 Social workers of Nazira were feliciated by the administration.Ignoring the Assam Bandh called by AATASU and boycoot calls of different outfit organisations over thousands of people gathered to salute the Tricolour.
Thousands devotees are visiting Nazira Amolapatty Bor-Namghar to take part at the 7-days non-stop Bhagawat recitation. This was start from January 20. This is the ancestrial place of music legand Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and his forefathers were the founders of this ancient Namghar.
Congress leader and Nazira MLA Debobrat Saikia gets extortion call from ULFA for Rs 30 lakh in cash. According to information, he received the call on Thursday from a person who identified himself as Rupentor Axom who further threatened to kill him if he fails to pay the amount. Earlier in August 2012, Saikia got the first extortion call from ULFA forcing him to lodge FIR in Simaluguri police station. The son of late chief minister Hiteshwar Saikia repeatedly has been getting extortion call from ULFA even before the panchayat election.
The civil administration of Nazira is ready for the panchayat election. Total 896 nos. og pooling personnel will be engaged in the election.A total og 1,01,037 nos. voters of Nazira Anchalik Panchayat will cust their vote on January 30.Out of total 224 nos. pooling stations, 60 nos. are sensitive and 12 nos. are most sensitive - all these are in Assam-Nagaland border. For free and fair pooling, the administration has tightened the security and deployed 3 companies of APBN. The administration has also set up a control room for election purpose: 03772-217432. SDO(C) of Nazira has disclosed it in a press meet on January 24.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi took part at a panchayat election campaign meeting of congress paty at visit Lakuwa on Monday.  In his speech Gogoi said that the his party will win in all panchayat seats and rural people will vote for Congress for the peace and progress of the state. Local MLA Sarat Saikia and Sivasagar district Congress president Tulsi Gogoi ete were present in the meeting.
The 3-day-Mech Kachari Cultural festivel which was began on January 18 at Harmoney Ground of Haripora Koch Gaon, near Nazira ends on Sunday. The festival featured folk dance, musib, culture and rituals.
Demanding appointment of local educated unemployed youths in ONGC & other industries of Sivasagar District,  ex. ITI Student Union is organising a public meeting at Nazira M.C.Club on January 20. They are also demanding socio-economic development  of the industrial areas and  declaration of nazira as "oil town".
Vetern social worker of Nazira and the president of Nazira Municipal Block Congress (I) committee Nawab Fize Ali passed away in the Aditya Nursing Home of Dibrugarh on January 13. He was 85. He was survived by his wife, 2 sons and one daughter. Former minister Dr. Hemoprova Saikia, MLA of Nazira Debobrat Saikia and different organisations of Nazira condoled on his death.
