Deplorable condition of Assam-Nagaland border area

The government has claimed to be spending huge amount of money for development of the Assam-Nagaland border areas. But the real development is far away. People in the remote area of Gelakey border areas are living in a deplorable condition; Lahdoigarh, Sunapur, Borhollah, Singibill etc. of Gelakey border areas under Nazira sub-division are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of proper road, bridge, water, electricity etc. The so called Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme is not able to reach these areas till today.

Nagaland has already occupied over 1000 Bighas of forest land of Assam. They have set-up one polling station at Borhollah in their recently held general election. According to the villagers of these areas, till today there is no any clear distinction or sign between the cadastral revenue village and forest-land in the border areas.

To prevent the Naga aggression in Gelakey border the state govt. set-up 3 nos. og  BOPs (Border Out Post) at Singibill, Borhollah and Sunapur in 2007, but till today the quantity of battalions in these three BOPs are not adequate and the battalions who deployed here are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of basic amenities like drinking water, light and infrastructure. The tube-well of Borhollah BOP is the only source of drinking water of entire Borhollah Village.

Two broken wooden bridge of Lahdoigarh, which are connecting the 3 BOPs of Gelakey border area shows and reflect the govt’s apathy and negligence towards Gelakey border.

Protest over recruitment at ONGC Nazira: AASU, AJYCP arrested

Death anniversary of Hiteshwar Saikia observed

The 17th death anniversary of late chief minister Karmashree Hiteshwar Saikia was observed at Nazira on Monday. On this occation, people paid floral tribute to their belovated leader in his Somadhi at Honghoti Stall, Nazira. A concrete statue of Hiteshwar Saikia is unvailled on this occasion at Simaluguri. Parliamentary secretary Sarat Saikia, MLA Anjan Dutta, Sarat Borkotoki and Debobrat Saikia were present in the in the event.

Leopard captured at Maduri

One adult leopard is captured by forest officials at Kuamora near Maduri  Tea Estate last night. On the otherhand Mousumi Mirdha (27), Rupa Bhumij (33) and Kaleshwari Kurmi (42) of Deopani tea eastate under Amguri police station were seriously injured by another leopard attack at 12 PM today .

Seminar on Mathematics held at Nazira College

A two-days UGC sponsored national seminar on "Teaching Mathematics issues and Challenge" was held at Nazira College on last April 3-4 which was inaugurated by Dr. Raju Gogoi, Principal of Nazira College. Professor Swadhin Pattanayak, ex.director of IMA, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Sukanta Pati of IIT, Guwahati, Prof. Gopal Hazarika of Dibrugarh University were present in the seminar.

Black marketing of LPG cyllenders hit Nazira

Rampant black marketing of domestic LPG cyllenders is going on at Nazira. The two gas agencies of this small town has created artifical scarcity of cylinders. Cylindars meant for domestic purpose are also used by hotels, commercial establishments. As a result common people are affected. 

NBT Book Fair of Nazira ends successfully

The first Book Fair of Nazira organised by the National Book Trust in association with the civil administration of Nazira and the NGO Probaah from March 23 to 31 at Nazira Gandhi Maidan ends successfully. 125 book stalls participated in the fair and several seminers were held on different topics.
