More than 500 inhabitants of more than six villages on Saturday  at about 10.30 a.m. staged a strong protest- in-dharna at Thekeraguri near Thekeraguri Railway crossing demanding NF railway authority to keep opening the railway crossing line for the smooth communication for commuters and  pedestrians of their villages. According to the villagers, the rail authority recently announced  that the railway crossing would be closed permanently for commuters and pedestrians following which the villagers staged a strong protest citing slogans against the authority.

Foreign liquors seized in Nagaon

Nagaon: A team of Flying Squad comprising of Nagaon police and Excise personnel today seized 42 cartoons of foreign liquer at Sialmari from a Tata Magic vehicle bearing no. AS 02 BC 7095. According to sources , the illegal liquors were being secretly transported to Kachua , Kampur by a man identified as Anuwar Hussain. Sources further said that the seized illegal liquors were brought to Kachua by a political leader with an aim to distribute among voters for the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

Black Belt for 10 year old

 A 10 year old karate player from Nagaon brings laurels to the district after earning Black belt in a Karate competition organized by  International  Shorin-Ryu Seibukan Karate Do Association , Assam , in Guwahati recently. Jyotiraditya Khaund , a fifth standard student of Riveral School , Nagaon  is also the youngest Black Belt holder of the district. Dacoit died in Nagaon gangwar

RAHA: A dreaded dacoit died and another sustained serious injury when a gang war took place in Nagaon on Sunday. The incident took place at Nagabandha in the wee hours where a group of armed dacoits were travelling on a vehicle. As they reached Juria suddenly they spotted another gang and started gun firing at each other.  Identified as Jonab Ali, an infamous died on the spot while another sustained serious injury who is fighting to survive at the hospital. Then both the groups vanished from the spot. Police investigation is going on.

Land of trouble for Rockybul

NAGAON: A team of chief minister’s anti corruption and vigilance cell is raiding Rockybul Hussain’s properties in Samoguri, Amoni and Puroni Gudam areas on Friday a day after the enquiry in a number of spots in Nagaon town to ascertain the veracity of the allegations of having illegal properties. Led by SP PJ Goswami along with two DSPs and three inspectors, the team is conducting the enquiry with the help of revenue officials on Friday also. Watery grave for minor boys in Kapili

RAHA: Two minor boys met watery grave when the duo along with a few others were going to bath in a river in Nagaon district on Saturday. The incident took place in Chapormukh area at around 11.30 in the morning as they were bathing on the river Kopili. Suddenly, the river water  current washed Akash Rai  and Mukti Prasad Bora—both studying in Hansora School who failed to bail out of the strong undercurrent. Local residents in large number along with SDRF personnel arrived in the spot and fished out the bodies leaving a pall of gloom in the area.

Girl raped inside auto in Nagaon

RAHA: Yet another rape incident in Nagaon sends no less shock and sensation across the state. The victim hails from Jagiroad whom a neighbour took away to the central Assam town and rape inside an auto before dumping her at the Mukut Sarma Road in broad day light.The eyewitnesses rescued the girl and the police have registered a case. A team of Nagaon police is looking for Moinul who allegedly took away the girl and raped inside the vehicle.

Coal trucks seized in Raha

RAHA: In a stepped up crackdown across the state against the illegal coal traders, the police in Raha intercepted five coal truck on Tuesday. Acting on a tip off the policeman on the National Highway No 37 seized the five trucks loaded with coal early in the morning. The drivers, who have been detained, confessed to have brought the huge consignment to Guwahati from Jowai in Meghalaya. Interrogation is going on. Despite restrictions on trade and transportation, a section of traders keep dealing in coal these days.

Biker dead in road mishap at Raha

RAHA: A biker died when he lost control over his vehicle before it rammed into the divider on the National Highway No 37 in Raha on Wednesday.The mishap took place at Phulguri in the afternoon when  Amarjyoti Deka, a resident of  Kasomari was riding on his two wheeler which hit the divider. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead leaving a pall of gloom in the entire area.

Dreaded dacoit held in Nagaon

RAHA : The Amsoi police in Nagaon district captured a notorious dacoit on Tuesday years after unleashing no less reign of terror in the entire area.Identified as Dilwar Hussain, he was arrested at Gawani Gaon during a joint operation by Raha  Amsoi and Kampur police in the wee hours.  Police claims to have possessed enough evidence to implicate Dilwar in a number of cases of murder, robbery, shoot out in a huge area of the central Assam district..
