Jahnu Barua named ‘People of the year 2013’

Celebrated Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua was named as ‘People of the year 2013’ on the occasion of the launch of the 24th edition of Limca Book of Records along with host of prominent names of Indian cinema in an event in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The edition of Limca Book of Records is a special issue of Indian cinema to celebrate the 100 years of Indian cinema.

Besides Jahnu Barua, the others to be named as 'People of the Year 2013' were renowned Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi, cinematographer Santosh Sivan, choreographer Prabhu Deva, wildlife photographer and documentary filmmaker Mike Pandey and film editor Sreekar Prasad.

While, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, Ranbir Kapoor, lyricist Gulzar, directors Mani Ratnam, Mira Nair, Aparna Sen and actor Vidya Balan were also honored on the occasion.

Jahnu Barua who also directed critically acclaimed film ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ said that filmmaking needs to be looked at not just as a business, but a mission to safeguard the cause of humanity.

“Filmmaking is like a nuclear power. If used properly, it can immensely help the mankind. And if misused, it can destroy many minds,” Barua was quoted by IANS after the event.

Assam government has made compulsory use of seat belt in all types of vehicles.The government has also directed to ensure fitment of seat belt in all types of passenger vehicles including buses by April 15, 2015. Further, no one can sell or handover any vehicle to any customer without pre-fitted seat belt device.
