UGC seminar held at Raha college

A  day long UGC –sponsored national seminar on the topic “ Role of Library and Information Science in Educational Development to the Rual Population on Digital Era ’’ was held on 23 rd April at the auditorium of Raha college here. The seminar was organized by Central Library , Raha college in collaboration with Guru Jyoti Satriya Sangeet Vidyalaya , Chaparmukh.

     Ghana Bora , President , Raha college Governing Body  inaugurated   the seminar by lighting the inaugural lamp. The welcome address was given by Dipti Devi , Vice-Principal of the college due to the absence of Dr. Beda Kr. Chaliha , Principal, Raha college. Champa Devi , Librarian , Central Library,  Raha college, & seminar Organising Secretary delivered the open address  assisted by Prithiraj Barkakoti,   Asstt.Prof.Dept.of English, Raha college, & Asstt. Secretary, Seminar Organising Committee.

    Dr. Narendra Lahkar, Prof.& HOD, Department of Library and Information Science, Guwahati University,in his keynote address said that Library and Information Centres as resource centre have witnessed a paradigm shift from its conventional nature to the digital entities. Changes taking place in digital environment have positive impact on the Library and Information Sciences ( LICs ) and the facilities extended by the Information and Communication Technologies ( ICT ) devices are greatly influenced by their workings and services. The society is now in a situation where geographical distances are not standing as a barrier in communicating information even to the remotest part of a country.  He inaugurated the Souvenir of the seminar.

      The Technical Session was chaired by Dr. Mukesh Saikia , Librarian , Tezpur University . Gouri Sankar Karmakar , Librarian, Pandu College, Gajendra Mohan Devsharma , Asso. Prof. Raha College, joined the seminar as Rapporteur. Besides a good number of delegates including lecturers, professors  of different colleges , the students from Raha college also  took part in the seminar.

     Prof. Naren Sarmah, Retd., HOD , Library and Information Science , Guwahati University, inaugurated a book titled  ‘ Pravandha Prapancha’  edited by G. M. Devsharma and Keshab Ch. Bhagawati jointly in the beginning of the seminar.

Another rape attempt in Khetri, 1 held

JAGIROAD: Amid an escalating shock and anger over the rape and murder incident in Nagaon, the Khetri police in Morigaon district caught a youth for trying to molest a minor girl on Monday. The incident took place at Kahikuchi near the National Highway No 37 on Sunday evening when the Class VI girl was forcibly taken away to a place by a local youth who raped her and left away. The local residents and family members rescued her and moved the police station with a complaint. Acting on the complaint the police have arrested the accused Raufik Ali.

The police team probing the incident arrested him by tracking his phone call records. Initially, the police traced one of his associates who received a call from him in the afternoon. NAGAON: People thronged in thousands at Nehrubali in Nagaon town demanding Justice for the minor girl in Dhing whom three miscreants gangraped and burnt alive two days back. The entire gathering demanded immediate arrest of the main culprit Zakir Hussain, who is still on the run while two other arrested perpetrators are juvenile. Speakers after speakers in the crowd demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators saying that this measure is the only way to firmly deal with these raising cases of rape and murder. On the other hand, Batadrawa MLA Angorlota Deka visited the.victom’s family members on Sunday and assured them of Justice.

NAGAON: Amid an escalating shock and anger an irate mob vandalized the residence of Zakir Hussain a day after he led the gang who raped and burnt alive a minor girl at Lalung gaon in Batadrawa on Friday. Local residents in large number thronged the house of Zakir in search of him and vandalised the house where his family lives in forcing the security men to step in. Gangrape and murder rerun in Nagaon

NAGAON: In yet another bizarre incident, miscreants burnt alive a minor girl after being gangraped in Nagaon district sending huge shock and anger across the state on Friday. The gruesome incident took place in Bordua where the miscreants in Dhaniabheti gaon gangraped the minor girl inside her home in the absence of her parents and later set her on fire by pouring kerosene and fled. Later local residents came to her rescue and rushed her to the hospital where she was declared brought dead. The police have caught the entire gang including the main accused Zakir Hussain by the evening.Many organizations and individuals have  demanded capital punishment of the perpetrators.

Dacoit hurt in police firing, dead

RAHA:An infamous robber died in Nagaon hours after he sustained injury as he was trying to escape police during an operation on Friday. Two of his associates were captured.The incident took place in the wee hours at Mohghuli area where a gang of dacoits was trying to strike forcing the police to step in. Police captured two of them while others fled and one of them was shot at as police opened fire at him for trying to escape in the wee hours.Identified as Ramjan Ali, he was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries in the morning. Gangrape in Kampur: 8 held

RAHA: The Nagaon  police on Saturday have arrested eight youths twenty four hours after they gangraped a women in full view of her husband in Kakoti gaon near Kampur sending huge shock and anger across the state.The  shocking incident took place on Thursday night where the miscreants gangraped the woman after assaulting her husband whom they tied with a rope.According to information, the couple  while travelling from Jagiroad to Hojai by train on Thursday night came into contact with Mazrat Ali in the train. Bandh ends, hits Raha

RAHA , March 13 :  The 12 hr Assam Bandh called by Tribal organisations of Assam  from 5 am today in protest against the government's failure to fill up vacant posts reserved for Scheduled Tribes ended  in the evening heavily affecting the normal life in Raha. The vehicles both private and public plying on NH 37 were run by police under tight security arrangements.
