Assam players won golds at the International Invitation Karate Championship 2013 held at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on June 9.

The winners are Manjit Dihingia – 2 Golds, Raju Kachari – 1 Gold, Dipu Tanti – 1 Gold and Sushmita Paul – 1 Gold.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi made it plain that those involved in the BTAD bloodbath must face the music.Talking to reporters in Dispur on Saturday, the chief minister said, “NIA probe will unearth the perpetrators who will have to face strict. I won’t save even the political leaders if they are found to have been mongering trouble in BTAD. The Assam Government has recommended NIA probe into the BTAD violence where at least 33 people were killed.Talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting in Dispur, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that this is a fit case for NIA probe.Gogoi said that his government has sought extra forces from the Centre apart from Cobra forces to firmly deal with the situation.
Senior citizens in Guwahati have alleged a nefarious political conspiracy behind the bloodbath in BTAD where at least 33 people lost their lives during the last 36 hours.After holding a meeting at the Guwahati Press Club, noted intellectual Dr Hiren Gohain said that the authority has straightly blamed it all on NDFB-S. But, according to Dr Gohain, it was not convincing.Attended by Left veteran Hemen Das, Professor Akhil Ranjan Dutta, senior journalist Nitya Bora, the meeting appealed to all section of the societies to remain calm in this hour of crisis.
Security forces deployed in BTAD areas have picked up 22 people in this connection with the orgy of paralyzing violence.Of them, 14 have been picked up in Baksa while 8 others have been apprehended in Kokrajhar during the last 12 hours.These include a forest ranger who was believed to have involved in the attack on the minority people.More and more security forces seem to have arrived in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Gossaigaon to deal with the situation. Senior minister Nilomoni Sendeka is on a stock-taking visit to Kokrajhar and Baksa on Saturday.Army, police and para military forces have been patrolling on the streets to thwart any bid to monger trouble in the nook and corner of the BTAD...
NDFB-S on Saturday made it plain and simple that the ongoing bloodbath in BTAD areas was not their handiwork.In an audio message to media, the outfit alleged a third party role in the gruesome chapter where over 33 people lost their lives in Kokrahar and Baska districts.The Bodo militant outfit further blamed the role of the government for failing to ensure safety and security of the people in the BTAD areas.Notably, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and DGP Khgen Sarma on Friday blamed it all on NDFB-S fo the blooodshed in the Bodo belt.
Senior minister Siddique has blamed it all on BPF for the ongoing murder and mayhem in BTAD.Ahmed who has arrived in Guwahati after his stock taking visit to the troubled torn districts told reporters that the entire chapter is political. Quoting the affected people as saying the minister said that they also called it a handiwork of BPF.Siddique further said that BPF leader Pramila Rani Brahma should be arrested apart from severing alliance with BPF.   
In a major setback for Assam’s health sector, the Medical Council of India has cancelled the recognition to two of the newly set up medical colleges.Reliable sources have told Assam Times that MCI took the drastic steps on April 16 on the basis of the fact finding reports its team deputed to the Jorhat Medical College and Barpeta Medical College in March.According to sources, the MCI team in its report mentioned poor infrascture in both the medical colleges apart from lack of professors and staff. This has left the fate over 300 students in utter uncertainty.
Yet another rhino was killed for horn in Kaziranga. The incident took place near the Demow-Aarimora camp in Agoratoli range of the national park.Forest guards on Friday recovered the hornless carcass in the evening hours after minister Rockybul Hussain held a public meeting seeking their help get rid of the poachers.With this, poachers have killed 17 rhinos in this year.    
The death toll in Chennai blast on Thursday has gone up to four. One more passenger in the ill fated Guwahati-bound train succumbed to injury on Friday.On the other hand, two of the four deceased hailed from Assam.Identified as Biren Das and his wife Sonia Das, the couple from Dhemaji district was on their way to Guwahati in the Bangaluru Express where the explosion took place at Coach No S-5 and S-4.
KMSS on Friday asked chief minister Tarun Gogoi to quit alleging his failure as home minister a day after 12 people lost their lives in militant attack in BTAD areas.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the peasant body president said that the government has prior inputs on the incidents of violence and that it remained idle.He further asked BTAD chief Hgrama Mohilary to quit for failing to ensure safety and security of the people.Gogoi said that only a thorough probe by CBI and NIA would be able to unearth the truth behind these orgy of murder and mayhem.Later KMSS took out a procession in protest against the BTAD incidents.
