Assam players won golds at the International Invitation Karate Championship 2013 held at University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka on June 9.

The winners are Manjit Dihingia – 2 Golds, Raju Kachari – 1 Gold, Dipu Tanti – 1 Gold and Sushmita Paul – 1 Gold.

A massive security arrangement is in place in Tezpur which goes to the Lok Sabha polls in the first phase on Monday.The voting will take from 7 in the morning at 1,763 booths to decide on the fate of nine candidate. Subba’s condition unchanged

Mani Kumar Subba’s condition refuses to improve even a day after the Tezpur independent candidate was admitted to MedantaCity Hospital in Gurgaon on Saturday.According to the doctors attending on the former Congress MP from Tezpur, he was not out of danger. A team of experts is closely monitoring his condition who is contesting from Tezpur in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls slated for Monday.He was airlifted to Delhi a day after his was rushed to GNRC following blood pressure and sudden stork at his residence in Lakhimpur.

Poll preps complete

The stage is set. Subba admitted to Medantacity

Mani Kumar Subba has been admitted to the Medanta City Hospital in Gurgaon after he was flown from Guwahati on Saturday.Doctors at GNRC advised the family member of the Tezpur independent candidate to airdash him to the national capital after his condition refused to improve from Saturday morning.According to information, Subba’s condition improved on Friday. But suddenly it deteriorated in the morning forcing his family members to shift him to Gurgaon.He was rushed to GNRC on Friday hours after he complianed of cardiac problem. 

Poll campaigning ends for Phase I

The campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha election slated for Monday ended as soon as the clock struck at 4 in the afternoon.The voting will take place from 7 in the morning in 8,588 booths.The first phase covers Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Koliabor and Jorhat where 51 candidates are trying their lucks. Electioneering for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls is all set to end on Saturday. The campaigning will end at 5 in the afternoon.This phase covers Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Lakhimpur and Koliabor.With tight security arrangement, the polling will take place on Monday from 7 in the morning to end at 5 in the afternoon.  

Subba to be flown to Delhi

Mani Kumar Subba would be flown to Delhi on Saturday two days after the Tezpur independent candidate was rushed to GNRC in Guwahati following complaint of heart ailment.Sources told Assam Times that Subba would be rushed to the Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon on Saturday morning.According to information, Subba’s condition improved on Friday. But suddenly it deteriorated in the morning forcing his family members to shift him to Gurgaon.He was rushed to GNRC on Friday hours after he compliant of cardiac problem.  

Opinion poll give Cong 11 seats, BJP 3

A rare dose of good news for Congress party in Assam. Despite being hardpressed by dissidence and Akhil Gogoi factor, the ruling party is likely to get 11 out of 14 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls if NDTV opinion poll is any indication.According to the opinion polls, Congress tally would go up by four seats----from 7 to 11 this year with a wonderful 35 per cent vote share.The survey seems hardly any impact of Modi magic where the BJP is likely to get only 3 seats---down from 4 in 2009. AIUDF and AGP may not be able to open even an account. Instead, the regional party would have to lose the lone seat in Tezpur. BJP’s vote share is shown 25 per cent with AGP 11 per cent.   ...

Ajmal campaigns for Subba

AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal on Friday campaigned for Mani Kumar Subba following the ailment of the Tezpur independent candidate.Ajmal left for Tezpur by a helicopter where he held two huge rallies and urged the people to vote for the former Congress MP.Before that in the morning, the perfume baron visited Subba at the GNRC Hospital and agreed to campaign for him. Subba’s wife and daughter also would campaign on the last day on Saturday.    

Former ULFA men tear apart Akhil

A former ULFA militants’ body tore apart Akhil Gogoi a day after the KMSS announced list of candidates of his choice for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, the organization alleged that Gogoi struck secret deal with AGP, BJP and AIUDF where he agreed to back a section of candidates in the name of crusade against the ruling party.They further brought some serious allegations against Gogoi saying that what he said on Thursday are not completely true.
